Well since the Space Shuttle is landing at 4:45 am, I figure I start a live thread now (I won't be awake)...

The mission initially had been scheduled to last 12 days, but an extra day was added on so the crew could transfer as much material and provisions as possible to the space station, amid uncertainty over the date of the next shuttle flight.

I sure wouldn't want to be up there in the station, waiting to find out if another shuttle can launch!

>What they should have done with the trash, is dump it off in space and let it burn up in space...

Nah, bring the trash back and sell it off on eBay to offset some of the costs from this boondoggle eco-recyclefreak project!

C'mon Eileen! LOL

And I missed it! I've been singing it for two weeks thinking that NASA should play it, but I missed listening to the wakeup calls tonight.

No one can film it either.

You can if you have an IR camera.

I suspect we've seen the last daylight landing.

Actually NASA has said that all the amateur videos were tremendous help in figuring out what happened to Columbia, so I don't think they are landing in the dark for that reason.

Some speculate that the landing path was moved over the Gulf of Mexico to prevent endangering people. Discovery has several other landing windows on Monday in the daylight if they miss the first one.

"NASA Fact: If Discovery lands on its first opportunity, Monday, Aug. 8 at 4:37 a.m. EDT, it will be the 15th night landing at Kennedy Space Center."

Here in Tampa we don't need to set the alarm. It's called a sonic boom.

Don't think you'll hear it this time... Now in Key West, that's another story.

I noticed earlier you had referred to the thread of three and a half years ago and just now I was going over it. Then I came back here and to see that you had pinged me. Can we get a little "Twilight Zone" theme music?

Space Shuttle Columbia Will Be Visible In San Francisco Area (6AM Pacific)

BTW, I'll be up.
