DNR reduces limit on ducks from six to four (Minnesota)

Minnesota waterfowlers will be allowed two fewer ducks in the bag this fall than last, and the limit on hen mallards during a 60-day season has been cut from two to one, the Department of Natural Resources said last week.

The reduction from last year's six-duck daily bag limit was due in part to a drop last year in the Mississippi Flyway duck harvest of about 1 million birds from 2003. Minnesota's 2004 harvest declined 23 percent.

Additionally, Minnesota's breeding duck population this spring was the lowest since the drought years of the 1980s. Mallards, down 37 percent from 2004, and blue-winged teal, down 45 percent, make up about two-thirds of the state's duck population.

Wisconsin and Michigan have for years limited hunters to one hen mallard daily.

My first thought was to pity Chinese restaurant owners, but then I remembered that there is no limit on cats.

I'll be interested to see what they do here in Louisiana. We've had two simply awful seasons back to back, and it's been about five years since we've had a really good season. If they're going to cut, personally I'd rather they keep the daily bag limit the same and reduce the number of days in the season.

The least our [D]amn [N]ear [R]ussia authorities could do is increase the limits (better yet lift them entirely) on Canadian geese (AKA: Sky Carp). Minnesota is literally infested with hundreds of thousands of these ill-tempered sh*t machines in our urban parks and green spaces. Thanks to tight limits, modern landscaping and ignorant nitwits that actually feed these winged crap monkeys, their year 'round populations are so high that when anywhere near their feeding grounds (i.e., golf course, creeks, city lakes, etc.) you actually have to slow your speed to a crawl when these urban buffalo herds move.

I know where all the ducks are. They're in my suburban neighborhood. The mallards, wood ducks and geese have all figured out that you can't discharge firearms inside city limits and that they get free bread from little kids and their parents.

It seems our duck population is down up here in Idaho too. The geese are posting record numbers though. COuld be one of the reasons the ducks haven't faired as well this year.

I wonder if sitting democrats are the same thing as sitting ducks And maybe the ducks have taken a lesson from the RATS?

I dunno. They sure seem populous enough. I hope they massively increase the goose bag limit. I'm so sick of those things. They are EVERYWHERE.

How about a zero-limit for migratory geese, and no limit for non-migratory geese? Seasons should do a good job of distinguishing them.
