UK equipment, but there were some USN personnel as part of the team.

"good, my heart is alive with joy. Do we have this sub in US hands now? This should be a great catch!"
You have got to be kidding?
Why? I don't believe the Russian subs have nice intentions toward us. Am I wrong?
Nice to know we can enlist the tuna boats for anti-sub duty.
Man!
That would leave me out!
There was a young lady in the training who will be on Marine One with the President. Helicopter training adds a new dimension. They have a simulator with seats arranged like a real helo. The trainees get belted in, then the trainer is lifted over the water. They drop it in rightside up, then flip it upside down (the way a helicopter normally flips in the water). The trainees have to release the safety belt and perform the egress...with and without the blind-fold.
The jet jockeys have life vests with auto-inflate capability. You can't do that in a helo. The helo is expected to flip and drop you in the drink. You must perform the egress before inflating the vest. An auto inflated vest would trap you against the inside of the helo.
I agree.
However, it is bad form to post openly in a language that we do not understand. No offense intended.
I had to take similar training for work.
Scared the crap out of me. I almost drowned once when I was a kid and greatly respect water.
I once asked FReeper Travis McGee what SEAL training was like. Because of my fear of water I damn near had nightmares!!
"Why? I don't believe the Russian subs have nice intentions toward us. Am I wrong?"
In the first place the US didn't rescue the sub, the Brits did, and then the Russians winched it to the surface.
In the second place if the Russians had recovered a US sub would you expect us to hand it over to them? The idea is so stupid as to put you in a league all your own.
Your's is probably the most idiotic statement I have read on FR ever.
Anyway it's just a little tiny rescue sub its self. No important technology to be gleaned from it.
Think before you post in the future.
Are you on crack? Of course the Russians would take our sub. We would ask them nicely to return it and they might return it eventually, after they studied it for a few months and received a nice ransom ( that wouldn't be made public ) for its return. The US spy plane that was forced down in China 4 years ago comes to mind.
You live in a fantasy world.
No, no no! You understand Russian :)
"Are you on crack? Of course the Russians would take our sub.
They would take our sub even though it was sitting on the deck of an American ship? You are the one on crack.
I will make this as simple as I can for you and if you still don't understand, then I give up. At no time was the Russian sub under US control. It wasn't ever even under British control. The sub is sitting on the deck of a Russian ship. If the US had tried to steal the sub it would have started WW III.
Buy a clue.
"However, it is bad form to post openly in a language that we do not understand."
I don't think so. Every language is a language someone somewhere doesn't understand. The Internet is international. It is not limited to English speakers only. If you don't understand a post it's pretty easy to ignore it and move on.
Who cares about the stupid details and why are you so sensitive about this? You seem horrified.
Speaking of them Ruskies, how come we've never heard any follow up on those Russian trucks that removed Iraq's WMDs from Al Qaa Qaa? The media, including conservative media, is not curious about that story. I think it gives people a nice feeling to pretend that Russia is our friend.
I do.
