From friends at ABC; Peter Jennings is near death. This is unconfirmed, but from usually reliable sources.
The ABC anchor, who was born in Canada but became a US citizen, announced a few months ago that he was suffering from lung cancer. He has not made a televised appearance since.

Yes and on this day that Nixon was hounded out of office by the MSM left (Jennings included) and on this day that became a death sentence for millions in Laos and Cambodia as Carter would waiver where Nixon would not, I will pray for Jennings - just as soon as I am done with prayers for Nixon and the millions of innocents that died.
Actually, Nixon's resignation anniversary is tomorrow.
No offense but I've never understood your attitude. Any comments on Peter Jennings relate to his actions as a public figure. Like most, I knew nothing of the man off camera. Of course, I hope his family is doing well, and that he passed away quickly.
But why act like we're talking about a next door neighbor or a friend who died? If for example, Sadaam dies tommorrow, are we supposed to NOT mention the fact that he was a blood thirsty tyrant? Or that we're glad he died?
I'm indifferent to his death. Jennings was a handsome, somewhat intelligent, unremarkable man who read the news. He wasn't a great patriot or public servant. He didn't die for his country in a war. He didn't invent anything or devote his life to charity. He read the news. Big Whoop. He wasn't a biased unprofessional fraud like Captain Dan the Newsman. But he was still a dyed in the wool MSM liberal who never had a good word for conservatives.
I am at a loss as to how you can perceive anything I said about Jennings as "deifying" him. I was merely suggesting that to attack his political views or personal nature uncalled for and reflected very negatively on those who said such things and conservatives by extension.
I said NOTHING positive about Jennings, I merely suggested that no good purpose was served by speaking ill of him. And to compare his life to that of Saddam only serves to minimize the monster that Saddam was.
You said almost the same thing I did, you said it better, said it quicker, and said it in fewer words.

Suggest re-read what I wrote. I did NOT compare Sadaam to PJ. Nor did I suggest you are a PJ fan.
I simply don't understand the "lets not speak ill of the dead".
Why? Is there a time limit or aren't we supposed to speak ill of any dead person?

Jennings certainly espoused the liberal media party line; however, he did not, to the best of my knowledge, ever do anything as blatantly underhanded and dishonest as Dan Ratherbiased. He read and reported news and he did so in a way that best presented liberalism. I will continue to despise and criticize the leftist media as I have always done. However, Peter Jennings is no longer a participant in that institution, so I fail to see the benefit of speaking harshly of him.
On television, Jennings rankled my sensibilities. But he was on a local radio station here a couple times as a guest and he seemed like a really decent guy worthy of respect. Very sorry about this. Will pray for him and his family.
As far as lung cancer and heart disease, five years is the watershed year when the risks fall back to the population norms.
As for emphysema, any lung damage is permanent, and at a certain point it can become progressive (like dominos toppling) despite quitting. So for the risk of progressive emphysema, I do pray you quit in time.

Those may well be your feelings about Jennings, but most of us are capable of rationally seeing the difference between discussing his death and damning him to hell while his body is still warm.

I just read your post to me, and I could not figure out what in the world you were talking about. So I showed your post to hubby, who then explained the correlation to PJ.
Wow. Excellent advice for my aunt who died 10 years ago of lung cancer and never smoked a day in her life.
Point well made. Probably was some WW2 vet that preserved our country, led an honest life and contributed to our great nation in many positive ways that died on that day...but we send our prayers out to the Canuckian "America Deathist"
The data available suggests he had small-cell (oat-cell) lung cancer, 12-20% of cases, which is typically terminal 2-4 months after diagnosis. It is the worst type of lung cancer, with only a 6% overall 2-year survival. It is only treatable with chemo, nearly always returns, and does not show symptoms (coughing, etc.) until it is well advanced. It grows into the mediastinal regions and can cause cardiac arrest - which is probably how Mr. Jennings died.
It killed my father-in-law earlier this year.
Heartfelt condolences for Mr. Jennings' family.

Pity you were not raised with enough class to keep your ill feelings about someone to yourself at least long enough for Jennings to be buried before you deposit various forms of human waste on the grave.
