We now have another more vexing problem: we have family in SLIDELL Louisiana. Very close cousins. The Husband is a Sheriff's deputy for the St Tammany Parrish dept and the wife works for the NBC affiliate in New Orleans. She was on the phone with her sister in Orlando when she scremed "THE ROOF IS LIFTING OFF!" And her children could be heard screaming in the background..... ages 9 and 15. Then the phone went dead.
Has anybody heard what has become of the Slidell area also known as THE NORTH SHORE? Has anybody got any contacts down that way? I can freepmail an exact address and all personal info if need be. I fear the worst and I'm praying hard.
The name sound familar. I've been following the Katrina thread and I think it was one of the areas hit hard. I am praying I'm wrong.
I hope you find out about your cousins in Slidell. It sounds horrific. What's worse is that there's no communications from that area (and much of New Orleans/Gulfport).
I'll also see what else I can find exSoldier.
Glad you're home
Cindy

The morning's collection of flooding conditions in New Orleans. There were few fresh photos of other devastated areas available in the short time I had available to collect these. Will try to update this thread later.
These photos are being posted especially for the benefit of FReepers and others who may have relatives or friends in the area, and who may not be able to get images any other way.

"Senator: Slidell area likely hardest hit by Katrina"
Capitol news bureau
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Much of Slidell is under water and likely sustained the worst damage from Hurricane Katrina, tate Sen. Tom Schedler, R-Mandeville, said Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Calling the devastation total, Schedler said, only slabs remain where dozens of houses were blown down and several feet of water remain in the Slidell Memorial Hospital on Gause Boulevard as well as throughout the old town area off U.S. 11.
Slidell is a suburban community of about 25,000 people northeast of New Orleans near where Interstates 10, 12 and 59 intersect in St. Tammany Parish.
Schedler was interviewed after being briefed at the state Office of Emergency Preparedness. He said he could not return to his district."
I will join you in praying hard.
I have no knowledge of the area to share with you.
I would highly recommend you post your request for info on the ongoing Katrina thread:

I have been following that thread, as much as time has allowed, for the past few days. Folks there are very helpful and some folks from Louisiana have been posting.
The "lead person", so to speak, for the thread is NautiNurse. Hope that helps, I really think that's your best bet for info via FR.
Hi ExSoldier! It appears the Slidell area was hit hard. Continuous prayers from here for your family in that area. Please keep us apprised if you hear anything about them. I can only imagine the horrorfic feeling the sister in Orlando had when her sister screamed and the phone went dead, let alone how everyone else in your family feels right now. Bless you all. Thank God you and your wife and pups are okay.
Note: I see you found this thread, exSoldier.

OMG, ExSoldier.
I will pray very hard for the safety of your relatives.
From the reports on TV, Slidell was hit dreadfully hard.
The hospital in Slidell is still operational, from what I've read. Do you know if they live anywhere near the hospital?
Will continue to look for updates for you.
