>> US says it discovered July 27 during a raid on a home in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, the author “Abu Zayd” complained of poor local leadership in the organization and the mistreatment of foreign fighters.

hehehehe

This is GREAT news! Looks like the Iraqis are getting tired of the pestilence infestation and are starting to do something about it.

The show on the Discovery channel looks to be excellent! Titled: Hiroshima.

Hubby and I watched it. Excellent show and we learned things we didn't know from it (hubby is black & White TV WWII buff).

"Watch for women and child bombers, says Met David Leppard"
Sunday Times (UK) ^ | August 07, 2005 (UK) | David Leppard

Posted on 08/06/2005 4:31:02 PM PDT by Perdogg

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "TERRORISTS could be preparing to use women and children as suicide bombers in further attacks on trains and other soft targets in London, internal Scotland Yard documents have warned. Official “stop and search” guidance just issued to thousands of Metropolitan police officers indicates that police fear the bombers may be planning to change their tactics.

“Terrorists will try to use our actions against us and will adapt their methods (use women or even children),” the document states."

This tell me that even if the gov't KNOWS the next attack is coming, we will not be told.

They would say it was "chatter" that could not be verified. You know the drill. Reading "chatter" may give us a heads up that could save our lives and those of our family members. What may be insignificant to some, may be quite relevant to others. I agree with you 100%,

I think the FBI wants some of the Lodi, California secret cell to be scared.

the headline is something like:

FBI secretly taped Lodi, Pakistani's conversations for 3 years............

I suspect that the gov meets and talks, much as we do here.

They get a warning, but not all of the facts.

We are on watch -expecting- something, from now to 9-11 and by then there will be a new date.

Look at the Lodi story link that i posted just now......

Three years the FBI listened, did they learn any dates, or was it "wait for the 'go' signal", then do this or that.

The FBI listened and did as the local Deputies did in Wellton, let the small fish continue to swim, while waiting for the larger one........

The warnings are out there, now to find them.

Be safe.

And give Clyde a hug for me.

"UK unveils steps to curb terror: Two radical groups to be banned"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "LONDON, Aug 5: Britain will ban two radical groups from operating in the country as part of a raft of measures to be introduced following bomb attacks on London last month, Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Friday. The premier said his government would outlaw Hizb ut-Tahrir, an organisation that says it is dedicated to creating caliphate centred on the Middle East but insists it does not support violence.

He said the government would also ban a successor organisation to Al Muhajiroun.

“We will proscribe Hizb ut-Tahrir and the successor organisation of al Muhajiroun,” Mr Blair said at his final Downing Street news conference before an imminent summer break.

Some of the measures will be implemented immediately, while others will require a period of consultation or the introduction of new legislation later this year."

The Terrorist Score Card is very interesting.

Yes, Straight Vermonter has done a wonderful job with that page, and the many threads on FR. It's an invaluable resource, and proving just how large this 'web' is.

Retired Green Beret, CIA contractor still ready for action at 75 (Great Story)
AP ^ | BILL KACZOR

Posted on 08/06/2005 9:24:03 PM PDT by jmc1969

Billy Waugh traces a burning desire to serve his country to Dec. 7, 1941 when Sheriff Ed Cartwright ordered the movie stopped at the Strand Theater in Bastrop, Texas, to announce that Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor.

Waugh, who popped popcorn at the theater, was only 12 and too young to fight in World War II, but at 18 he enlisted in the Army. He saw combat as a paratrooper in Korea and a Green Beret in Vietnam, where he was wounded eight times in 7 1/2 years.

After retiring as a sergeant major he became an independent contractor for the CIA. In his 60s, Waugh spied on Osama bin Laden and tracked down "Carlos the Jackal," celebrated his 72nd birthday in Afghanistan with a rifle slung over his shoulder and then served similar duty for the spy agency at 74 in Iraq last year.

He is steadfast, however, in his belief that al-Qaida, the terrorist organization bin Laden was forming in the early 1990s while Waugh was spying on him, must be crushed.

"Their intent is to destroy our way of life," Waugh said. "Al-Qaida and many other factions of Islam — not all of Islam — are devoted to taking down the West. How long has it been going on? It's been going on since the Crusades."

He regrets not killing bin Laden while eavesdropping on him in Khartoum, Sudan, in 1991-92.

"I'm not a very good shot with a pistol, but I could have killed him, certainly, with a silent weapon," Waugh said.

After the Sept. 11 attacks, Waugh begged CIA officials to send him to Afghanistan, where he joined a small team of CIA operatives and Army and Air Force special operations troops. He served with a similar team in Iraq.

Okay, so far we've passed two of the projected attack windows: 8:15 A.M. Hiroshima time, and 8:15 A.M. in all U.S. time zones for August 6. Guess we're all going to be on alert for the long haul.

Coalition Forces Seize Terror Suspects, Bombs

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Aug. 6, 2005 – Coalition forces in Iraq captured seven terror suspects, seized a car bomb being prepared for an attack, and foiled five roadside-bomb attacks during a series of combat operations conducted in Baghdad over the past two days.
Just before 6 a.m. today, coalition forces seized a car bomb and three terrorists who admitted they were planning to use the car bomb in an attack later in the day. An explosive ordnance disposal team safely detonated the bomb, and the terrorists were taken into custody.

At 3:30 a.m. Aug. 5, Task Force Baghdad soldiers approached a man out after curfew in the Thawra district of northeast Baghdad. As the patrol neared, the individual ran away. The soldiers pursued the suspect to his home to question him.

As they were asking the man why he was out after curfew, the soldiers noticed hundreds of fake identification cards in the house. The patrol searched the house and found four computers and numerous documents thought to be used to create the false IDs. The unit detained the man and another suspect in the house and took them into custody for additional questioning.

Later in the day, just after 1:30 p.m., Iraqi army and Task Force Baghdad soldiers working together in Abu Ghraib caught two men red-handed as they were preparing a site for a roadside bomb. When the combined patrol approached the men, they ran to a nearby house. The soldiers chased and caught both men, searched the house, and found an AK-47 assault rifle with ammunition. Both men were taken into custody for questioning.

Task Force Baghdad soldiers also found and safely disabled two roadside bombs in different Baghdad neighborhoods before terrorists could detonate them.

In other news from Iraq, Task Force Baghdad soldiers conducted Operation Able Warrior to defeat terror cells operating west of the Baghdad International Airport in the early-morning hours of Aug. 4.

In less than three hours, soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, conducted a series of simultaneous attacks and captured 41 suspected terrorists, including three foreign fighters.

"We went out and did what we set out to do. This was a picture-perfect mission," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Steve McCorkle, commander of 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment.

The mission of Operation Able Warrior was to disrupt car-bombing cells and those that place roadside bomb, and prevent them from planning, preparing and carrying out terrorist attacks in the area.

"We want to set the Iraq army up for success. This operation will help the Iraqi security forces take more control of the day-to-day operations," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Thomas Carden, a spokesman for the 48th BCT.
