The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Was Bomber's "New York" Shirt A Message?
Full Story

It's hardly a unique fashion statement for a mass transit rider: a Yankees-style cap, and a "New York" sweat shirt.

But the New York Police Department is teaming with British authorities to determine whether those items were worn by suspects in the London terror cases to send a "purposeful message" to the city, according to an NYPD officials.

David Cohen, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence, raised the concern earlier this week at a security briefing for business leaders at police headquarters in Lower Manhattan.

who's the mad hatter today?

I vote for the CEOs of each of the oil companies that have begun raising gasoline prices on the "speculation" that hurricane Katrina "might" cause problems for the oil rigs. Guessing the billions of profit they make cannot be used to offset the spikes we'll be feeling at the gas pump. I fear what groceries and other commodities will cost when it hits $100 a barrel.

MammaD, if Teddy Roosevelt was around you'd see the big stick come out and bash those CEO's who have contrived the spike in prices by intentionally cutting back on refinery output over the last few years. Need proof, read the 10-Qs filed with the SEC and notice that profits are up 35-40%.

"Alleged illegals arrested at SoCal Army base"

Hoping news stories like this one will prompt people to report illegals working with or near them. What we need in this country is a good dose of patriotism and pride in being American. Anything less is unacceptable

What does it mean to be an American now?

I've already seen them, that's what's drawn my ire concerning them. It's like Exxon all over again, this time with the oil companies. What revulses me is that our nation's elderly and low income are forced to make choices no one should have to make (fuel oil or food on the table). Each time our government "investigates" oil industry price gouging, it ends up moot and we never hear another word about it. Rising oil prices also throw "gasoline in the fire" about our presence in Iraq.

Additionally, school districts are announcing adjusted bus stops (further apart) so busses don't have to use as much fuel. How many children will tentatively be put in harm's way to save gasoline? The death of one child is too many.

You are correct, the illegal problems are out of control.

The shame of it is, that the real Mexican worker is not the one at fault.

It is the other countries using fake Mexican documents that scare me.

All those fake mechanics at the airports, is a good reason that we keep having airplanes suddenly fall out of the sky.

Several towns are talking of setting up hiring centers for the illegals, now to me that is scary.

Denver and Las Vegas are both planning the hiring centers.

" Special Agent pat Bashore tells WAVE 3 News that the truck is a white 1969 Ford F-800. The tank is stainless steel and has Shell Oil Company decals on it. There was not a licence place on the truck."

Time to check every horse barn, every garage, every structure big enough to hide this. Anyone know if trucks are allowed on that Western Kentucky Parkway which goes up to Lexington from there?

I hope the feds have considered the possibility that Al Queda might try to throw a wrench into this situation. It seems to me a couple of well placed car bombs could trap over a million folks.

Saudi Bomb Mastermind Killed [in Iraq]
Arab News ^ | 2005 Aug 28 | Samir Al-Saadi

Posted on 08/27/2005 9:03:28 PM PDT by Wiz

JEDDAH, 28 August 2005 — The US military in Iraq yesterday said that a Saudi man who supplied and coordinated suicide bombers in Iraq had been shot dead along with another unidentified “terrorist” in the northern city of Mosul.

“Coalition forces killed Abu Khaled, a major facilitator of foreign fighters and suicide bombers in northern Iraq, during operations in Mosul” on Thursday, the US military said in a statement.

Arab News contacted Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, official spokesmen of the Interior Ministry, who said there was nothing official out yet regarding this particular case and that the ministry was looking into the matter.

About the name “Abu Khaled”, Al-Turki said terrorists often give themselves such names and they are not their real names. He said he would give further information today.

The US military said tips from local residents and intelligence sources led the forces to a location in Mosul, 370 km north of Baghdad, where Khaled was located.

“Upon arrival at the location, the forces stopped his vehicle, a gunfight immediately ensued and Khaled and an unidentified terrorist were shot and killed,” the military added.

It said some detainees had alleged that Khaled had contacted his accomplices in Saudi Arabia to coordinate the movement of foreign fighters and suicide bombers into northern Iraq.

The shame of it is, that the real Mexican worker is not the one at fault.

You are correct, it is the OTMs about whom we need to be seriously concerned. That the airlines hire mechanics with dubious proof of citizenship (no background screening obviously) shows airline security as a whole to be flawed and lacking.

Prepared Remarks of
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales In
Bogota , Colombia
August 24, 2005

Good morning.

First, let me begin by thanking my colleague, Mr. Mario Iguaran. Thank you, Mr. Prosecutor-General, for your time this morning.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is a privilege to represent President Bush and the people of the United States in this important visit to Colombia.

I want to express the appreciation of the United States for President Uribe’s continuing leadership and for the example he sets for world leaders who share his commitment to combating terrorism and drug trafficking. I am also deeply grateful to the Colombian people for their gracious hospitality.

Over the last few years, our nations have forged increasingly strong ties. I believe that Colombia and the United States have never been closer, and we have never accomplished more together in such a relatively short time.

It is easy to understand why.

Our nations are united by a shared love for freedom and our friendship continues to grow out of our common struggle against terrorism.

The people of Colombia and America have both experienced the tragic and deadly consequences of terrorist hate. More importantly, both our nations have turned pain and sorrow into lawful action in order to build a safer world for all our children.

This trip is another step in our historic partnership. It has contributed to better and closer ties between our countries. It has reaffirmed our commitment to peace and prosperity.

As a result of our work and these meetings, we have been able to discuss honestly and openly our concerns and even our differences. More importantly, we have been able to confront challenges and find solutions together.

Like President Bush, I believe Colombia has become a beacon to the world showing the kind of progress free nations can make in the fight against corruption, injustice, and terrorism. You have shown that free people can set the course of history against the forces of greed and extremist hate.

For years now, Colombia’s elected leaders and courageous public servants —police, prosecutors, and judges—have sacrificed their time and sometimes their lives to build a better justice system for the people. Colombia is now taking historic steps to a transition to an adversarial criminal-justice system.

At the United States Department of Justice, we are committed to stand by you to help in any way we can. We have seen your progress and we admire all that you have done.

In these recent meetings, we have strengthened the communication and cooperation between our sovereign nations. Extradition is a critical tool for both our countries in the battle to ensure that criminals are brought to justice. The extradition partnership the United States has with Colombia is the best we have in the world. This important relationship enables both countries to deal effectively and forcefully with serious criminal organizations and individuals.

Last night, I expressed my appreciation to President Uribe and Minister Pretelt for this relationship. And this morning, I reiterated the sentiment to Prosecutor-General Iguaran.

With regard to extradition, I want to make it absolutely clear that the President of the United States and the government of the United States intend to honor our commitments and obligations in this bilateral relationship and on extradition orders.

President Uribe, Prosecutor-General Iguaran, and the people of Colombia have the respect and the admiration of the American people.

I look forward to continuing our work together.

We are showing that when free nations come together hope, opportunity, and peace can be a blessing for all.

"Terrorists ambush bus killing six civilians"
By A Staff Reporter

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "KATHMANDU, Aug. 27: The Maoist terrorists have ambushed another passenger bus on Saturday morning killing six passengers and injuring seven others.

The bus, going to Kathmandu from Dang, was caught in an ambush at Bankasa road section of the East-West Highway at Shivapur VDC at 7 this morning, said the statement of the Directorate of Public Relations of the Royal Nepalese Army on Saturday.

Five passengers died on the spot and one more while undergoing treatment. The seven injured were airlifted by the army for treatment in Kathmandu. They are undergoing treatment at the Birendra Army Hospital, Chauuni.

The passengers had tried to remove the ambush planted by the terrorists when it went off.

Earlier, the terrorists had ambushed a bus at Madi of Chitwan killing 38 passengers. Although the terrorists’ leader Prachanda had, in a statement, said that they would not repeat such incident. But to no avail, the terrorists have done it again."

"Terrorism: US Training Southeast Asian Security Forces"
by Jim Kouri, CPP

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Bush Administration has bolstered assistance to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand in hopes of contributing to US foreign policy and security goals especially in the war on terrorism. But in order to further human rights goals, Congress restricts certain security assistance funds from being provided to any units of foreign security forces when credible evidence exists that units have committed gross violations of human rights such as "death squads," unlawful and brutal interrogation techniques and other suspected violations."
