ARTICLE SNIPPET: "BEIRUT, 12 August 2005 — Radical cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed, who is being investigated in Britain for his remarks on the London bombings, was detained yesterday in Lebanon moments after giving an interview to Future Television. In the interview, the cleric said he did not intend on returning to Britain and denied having any links to Al-Qaeda.

Bakri, who holds a Lebanese passport, said he left Britain of his own free will and that he had been thinking of returning to Lebanon, which he fled during the war in 1981.

“I left Britain on my own accord though I have not been accused of anything there or in Lebanon... but the London attacks are the reason I have returned,” Bakri declared.

As he left the studios of Future TV in West Beirut after his interview, the 47-year-old cleric was detained in what security sources said was “a routine arrest to determine his reasons for being in Lebanon.”

“He was arrested as soon as he left the (Future TV) building after the interview,” said Future Television reporter and editor Salman Sarieddine. “The General Security was waiting for him outside and took him away in the car. They hadn’t seen the interview, and we were not warned beforehand that this could happen.”

Lebanese Information Minister Ghazi Aridi later said Bakri was arrested as a “precautionary measure.”

The British Embassy in Lebanon said it had not issued any arrest warrant on Bakri, a necessary requirement if the cleric was to be held at Britain’s request."

"Police: 3 Men 'Suspiciously' Videotaping At Santa Monica Pier: Police Say Men Were Filming Access Roads, Security Structures," from NBC4, with thanks to LB:

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Three men who were seen videotaping the Santa Monica pier in a suspicious manner have been identified and were seen videotaping in other communities, police said Thursday.
All three men were of Middle Eastern descent, NBC4 reported. The men's nationalities had nothing to do with the investigation, police said.

Sure. But do you happen to know if they hold to a certain ideology?

"Ordinarily, when tourists videotape, they don't videotape security structures for an extended period of time," said Santa Monica Police Chief James T. Butts. "They don't focus on access roads, and usually, the tourists themselves are in the photographs to document they were there, and that's not what these photgraphs showed."
The three men were not arrested, police said.

At least one community leader, however, questioned whether or not racial profiling was involved, NBC4 reported.

NBC4 does not report, however, on the background of the organization represented by this particular community leader.

"That creates this kind of confusion, this kind of fear that if someone is Middle Eastern and filming, does that fall into the category of being suspicious?" Sabiha Khan, of the Council on American Islamic Relations, said. "So, behavior should be profiled, not people."
Look, Sabiha, James Butts did talk about their behavior, and explained why it was not that of the ordinary tourist. It would be a lot easier for me to be sympathetic to what you're saying if it were actually an accurate characterization of what happened.

Also: where are these men now? What are they doing? Does anyone know? Does anyone care?

National Security: The knowledge that Mohammed Atta was affiliated with al-Qaida was known at least a year before Sept. 11, but political correctness and walls between agencies built by Democrats kept it a secret.

Curt Weldon, R-Pa..."Two weeks after 9-11, my friends from the Army's information dominance center, in cooperation with special ops, brought me...this chart of al-Qaida...Mohammed Atta."

Lee Hamilton, co-chair of the 9-11 commission, said the commission "did not learn of any U.S. government knowledge prior to 9-11 of surveillance of Mohammed Atta or of his cell . . . Had we learned of it, obviously it would've been a major focus of our investigation."

But they did learn of it. The New York Times reports that the 9-11 commission staff had the Able Danger data...

Commission staffers plan a trip to the National Archives to retrieve their notes on Able Danger's findings...where Clinton National Security Adviser Sandy Berger was caught stuffing classified documents about terrorist threats down his pants, presumably to remove them from public scrutiny.

And this is the same commission that included Jamie Gorelick, a deputy attorney general in the Clinton Justice Department...architect of the wall between intel and law enforcement, making "connecting the dots" before 9-11 a virtual impossibility.

..."single greatest structural cause" for 9-11, which was "the wall that segregated criminal investigators and intelligence agents."

...Maybe the focus will shift from how George Bush could have prevented 9-11 in his eight months in office to what Bill Clinton failed to do in eight years.

And maybe...the whiners who fight — on fears that swat teams will descend on public libraries — renewal of the Patriot Act to prevent the next Atta from flying a plane into a building, will just shut up, let us collect the dots and connect them.

Oklahoma City, Okla. — ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Dreyling told authorities he had made the device and said it was “basically a pipe bomb,” according to an affidavit. Dreyling said he built the device for entertainment value, never intending to hurt anyone, and forgot that it was in his carryon bag when he brought it to the airport, the affidavit said.

Dreyling said he learned as a teenager how to build homemade explosives from Web sites like “The Anarchist’s Cook Book.” Dreyling said he has built and detonated several explosive devices for recreational purposes, according to the affidavit.

He also told authorities he had a bag of gunpowder, an empty carbon dioxide cartridge, and several ignitors in his Norman residence, according to the affidavit."

Thoughts from a Potential Terrorist

By day I run a faith- based homeless shelter. By night I surf the Internet looking for cyberterror.

Some people wonder what the director of a homeless shelter is doing trying to close down radical Islamic web sites and defeat the radical Islamic agenda. That's an easy question to answer. Above anything else, Joy Junction (www.joyjunction.org) is a faith- based ministry which shows the love of Jesus Christ in spiritual and practical ways to the many homeless women and families who come to us looking for help. Unless we start taking the fundamentalist Islamic agenda seriously and realizing that its ultimate goal is to impose shariah (Islamic) law over the entire world, we'll be in trouble. We won't be able to have faith- based ministries like Joy Junction – they'll be illegal. People need to understand what's going on here. Terrified, shocked and grieving Londoners and others worldwide who have been victims of the militant Islamic agenda certainly do.

THE BEGINNING

While checking activity recently on the Yahoo groups message board "Islamic Resistance," I found a very disturbing message.

From kashmirmujahideen@yahoo.com, (km) it read in part, "I wish I could fight in jihad, but who will supply me? I'm just one man in my eyes. I say, ‘I can help, put me on the first flight, but (are) there other men and women of Islam like me? In dreams I can see myself in battle strong and brave, sweat on my face into battle I go. I just want the day to come to me. Is there anyone that (I can) ask? Maybe I can be a leader, or just a jehadi reading the Quran and praying to my god that I fear. Oh god, I wish I had money. I would help my Muslim brothers and sister. This letter is to the world."

Using a pseudonym, I wrote a sympathetic letter to KM offering "assistance." His response read, "If you could start sending (sic) donates to my address, I will also be sending hand written letters and photos. Or do you want to wait (to) write back to me brother ... you are more than a brother, you are the reason I can go to jihad in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Kashmir. I hope we will meet in paradise. May Allah bless you. I shall pray for you and your family."

Over the course of the next few weeks, I corresponded regularly with KM, and learned after some weeks that he had ambitious plans for the funds.

They included opening an explosives company which would also stock "tools."

In addition, KM wrote, "I am going send some (of the money) to Palestine (for) arms (for) such groups as the Hamas of South Gaza. I am very honored. The money you are supplying me is good for operations. It will melt down the western economy. This is (the) victory ... enemies will fear."

KM continued in a subsequent and chilling e-mail talking about what he would do with the funds.

"It's to cripple western nations ... for operations such as Jewish or American targets ... The funds will help extremely well the amount you said that you are sending to me ... is wonderful. I have told my brothers in Southern Chechnya about you. The money is perfect. Western planes (and) military targets won't even have a chance. There will be nowhere to hide for all non- believers."

It took a number of weeks to build on- line relationship to this point. By this time I also knew KM's real name – Justin Kadafi Singleton – a bank account number, his home address and he had also sent me two pictures of him.

About the same time, KM also sent me this message.

"Since I was little I always wanted to be in jihad. I see the pain of our Muslim brothers and sisters and I want revenge and victory. I'm right on the enemy soil. I can probably go anywhere, just look at me. Oh, Allah has blessed me by meeting you and your brothers."

ESTABLISHING TRUST

I was aware that I needed to take things slowly while dealing with KM. Appearing to be pushy or anxious would have raised understandable red flags. During that trust-building period, I kept up a friendly correspondence and a few days later received another e-mail which read, "I'm waiting for you to visit me. I am working on leaving my job. I work at a food store for the journey of jihad. What is a good time for you to come? I shall open a bank account so you send (sic) donates. Maybe you can come to my mosque in Hartford, Connecticut (www.google.com/local?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=mosque&near=Hartford,+CT&sa=X&oi=localr). I hope to see you my brother. You are now in my family, so I treat you like a blood brother. Tell your brothers and sisters in (New York City) that they're welcome to my home. I'm also trying to lose weight. I am overweight brother."

I continued the e-mail exchange, making sure that I didn't appear too pushy or anxious. Radical Islamics and jihadists are well known for their patience.

The next e-mail read, "Dear blood brother, I hope to open bank account by this week; then you can send funds. I will give you the number of my account when it's done. I have a cell phone. Also, do you have connections with mujahideens in Iraq or Pakistan where I want to go? When I'm there I'm going to try to find funds so we can start (our) operations for freedom and let the (sic) occupys fall in defend. They are evil. I wish to join you at your base of force in (New York City) after my training."

Another e-mail from KM soon followed. It read, "I (had) recent discussion with Maulana Abdul Jabbar and Jaish-e-Mohammed Maulana Mufti Rashid Ahmed of the Dar-ul Ifta-e-wal-Irshad brothers (www.tkb.org/Group.jsp?groupID=58), but they ask for donations which I would give it to them when you and your brothers send the money to me. I have talk(ed) to cell at Matti-Gawran in Kokernag (www.satp.org/satporgtp/countries/india/states/jandk/terrorist_outfits/jaish_e_mohammad_mujahideen_e_tanzeem.htm).

"Jammu and Kashmir my cousin (are) in Mogadishu for operations. My bank account will open tomorrow or this week than we can start working, and you send inside my account. Inshaallah.

"I swear to Allah, I wish to fight for Allah's cause and be killed, I'll do it again and be killed, and I'll do it again and be killed."

Following the London bombings, I wrote to KM (whom I had told I was an al Qaeda operative), "Do you see what we can do? London is but a glimpse. How would you like to bee involved and what would you like to do?"

He responded, "My blood brother ... when I saw the news outta London my heart (sic) beated so fast, I felt happy it happened I promise to God that I will bring jihad inside America and UK on their soil."

The same day in another e-mail he wrote, "(As) soon as I get funded I will (sic) the first to set up operations in the soils of western pigs. We will drive the Americans away from all Muslim countries. (Sic) There is no innocent people in their cold land. Operations will cost ... 40,000 - 400,000 brother ... will you support that?"

Another portion of the same e-mail read (which while not attributed I believe was probably copied) read, "We declared jihad against the US government, because the US government is unjust, criminal and tyrannical. It has committed acts that are extremely unjust, hideous and criminal whether directly or through its support of the Israeli occupation of the Prophet's Night Travel Land (Palestine). And we believe the US is directly responsible for those who were killed in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq."

Another shocking e-mail from KM read, "Brother of mine, I had some dreams and had ideas. Okay you know that I'm American, I don't look Middle Eastern – you know how world is: racism and stuff. With money I can open a manufacturer and supplier of commercial explosives. (It would be a ) designer and manufacturer of non-electric initiation explosive systems. Products include detonators and cords, flexible explosives and cords, safety fuses, boosters and delay detonators. Products are sold to the mining, quarrying (industries). Brother we would (need) tons of explosives ... You know we would never run out of supplies, but I think it would cost in millions. I just need funds."

A couple of days later another e-mail from KM arrived. It read, "Salaam blood brother, soon we will complete my bank account by this week. It's been taking a long time. I had a funeral so I wasn't feeling like going places since it's my Muslim brother who died in jihad after going to Bosnia in 1995. He came back in 2001, now went to Chechnya where he was laid in peace. With donations and funding I will take his firearm and Quran. I will shout ‘allahu akbar' until my enemies are buried in ruins. Soon what happened in London will be an everyday thing for the Americans who seek to destroy our way of faith and massacre us, but this won't happen."

The e-mail continued. "I shall resist and fight in jihad until my demise. ‘I swear to Allah, I wish to fight for Allah's cause and be killed, I'll do it again and be killed, and I'll do it again and be killed.' Being killed for Allah's cause is a great honor achieved by only those who are the elite of the nation. We love this kind of death for Allah's cause as much as you like to live. We have nothing to fear for. It is something we wish for."

The e-mail exchange continued. KM wrote, "The news is that I went to the bank. Now I have a bank account. Tell your brothers (they) can give donation as well. There are many brothers I know who willing to fight in jihad. Just send it through my account. Put your AK47 and Quran pointed into the skies for my cousin and uncle who fought in Bosnia (and) Africa. What they would do is scream ‘allahu akabar, allahu akabar.'"

Finally KM sent the bank account number and information. He had opened up an account in Sovereign Bank in Wethersfield, CT. He provided the account number and the other details necessary.

In the same e-mail KM sent me this advice. "I advise myself and you to fear God covertly and openly and to be patient in the jihad. Victory will be achieved with patience. I also advise myself and you to say more prayers. O ye who believe! When ye meet a force, be firm, and call Allah in remembrance much (and often); that ye may prosper."

BUYING MORE TIME

When the funds which he had been expecting failed to immediately come through, KM wrote, (sic) "I was wondering where you are and are you going start wiring in my account. My brothers have plan for operations over here. We are waiting for the funds. Later we will meet you and your brothers in heaven."

I wrote back to KM trying to buy a little time, saying the funds would be wired to his account in a few days but because of government regulations they would have to be wired in increments of $9,000.

He was happy, writing back "Salaam blood brother. I felt energy when I hear about your brothers in London and Egypt (who) are saving Islam from evil westerners and their puppets. Me and my brothers of Qassam love you brother ... May God protect you and your family. You are my family I shall open my home my heart to you and your family. The funds will help ... keep the resistance going brother, god willing. allahu akabar allahu akabar."

In another e-mail, KM wrote detailing what he was planning to do with the funds. The sophistication of the narrative and the correct spelling suggested that KM had copied it, but the apparent intent was still very troubling.

"My blood brother. This is what I'm planning to do. Start a company that is a "manufacturer and supplier of commercial explosives, initiating systems, blasting solutions and services to the mining, quarrying and construction industry. Provider of blasting products supplies for mining, quarrying, seismic exploration, avalanche control, construction applications, and related equipment. Supplier and exporter of specialty chemicals for extruded double-base (EDB), composite propellants for military/aerospace rockets, silicon based rubbers, and other propellants. "

He added, "funding will work, brother. We would never run out of supplies."

An e-mail the following day read, "Khalid, I exist for the sole purpose of penetrating the western soil to destroy it. While it's its resting we must have many communications we are brothers more than a friendship. I can't live without Allah and Islam. Having learned from earlier criticism, I have now fought back against the terrorists of America and Israel and their dogs. I am am set for jihad. My blood boils because of the oath my brothers have promises they swear to keep the love of Islam in their hearts. We are Muslims because (of) the love we feel when we open the Quran."

A subsequent e-mail read, "And peace and prayer be on the one that with his sword, Allah elevated Islam's status. Do not be on the side that pleases Bush and the crusaders administrators; be on the side that angers Allah's enemy. You will benefit from your good deeds ... My blood brother, me and my brothers (are wondering) when will the funds come in, brother? Sorry for bothering you so much about the funds. May Allah bless you and your brothers and their families."

BUYING EVEN MORE TIME

For a variety of reasons, I wanted to buy more time. I wrote to KM saying that rather than wiring all the funds, I, along with some "brothers," would like to meet him with a suitcase full of money. We decided on his apartment as a meeting place and he gave me his address, along with directions from www.mapquest.com.

However, when I delayed that meeting and set an additional date a week further away, KM wrote, "Next Friday I'm going camping so I don't know if I'm going (to) meet you next Friday at my apartment at 3pm. Did new directions help you, brother? I will get a safe to put funds inside – very protected."

He continued, "American and British blood will stain their roads and rivers. They are cowards; they are enemies to all mankind. Don't turn your back on them. Let them see our brave faces as we smile into battle and shout, ‘allahu akbar.' Do you think we should plan another day (to) visit me?"

I responded to that e-mail like this, "Brothers are coming from many miles to meet you and give you much money and you go camping? How much do you want money and jihad? (The) bothers had much hope in you, but if camping is more important, maybe we find someone who really wants money."

There was a quick response from KM. "I will be here next Friday for meeting, so I can honor you and your brothers coming here. Sorry for what I said. I hope the directions will help you find my place. Seriously, I hope you come here you are my family we will have tea when you arrive with your brothers."

KM'S PUBLIC POSTINGS

While KM was writing to me he was also posting on a number of Yahoo groups. Now posting as Blackhand Militia (because Yahoo had apparently disabled his account) he was writing, or copying and posting, commentary like this.

"Our beloved Islamic Nation, tonight and at these very moments, we bring you good news. Just a little while ago, the battles of glory, victory, and control, have begun across Iraq. The Abu Anas Al-Shami (may Allah have mercy on him and accept him as a martyr) Expedition
has been activated all over Iraq. Today is a day for joy and happiness; it is a day of victory, it is a day from the hereafter and not from this world because your Mujahideen brothers in the Al-Qaida organization in the Land of the Two Rivers have sworn fidelity to Allah that they will fight for this deen (Islam) and its people (Muslims).

"Let Paradise come near and get ready for the new occupants, the Martyrdom Brigades chanting Takbir (Allahu Akbar) for tomorrow you will meet beloved brothers, Muhammad and his companions. You are a special breed, you have not settled for humility and disgrace as
your enemy did.

"Our beloved Islamic Ummah, make no mistake about it, your Mujahideen brothers are able to fight and score victories against the your enemies only with the help and grace of Allah, to Him belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth."

Another e-mail from KM read, "We also point out that whoever supported the United States, including the hypocrites of Iraq or the rulers of Arab countries, those who approved their actions and followed them in this crusade war by fighting with them or providing bases and administrative support, or any form of support, even by words, to kill the Muslims in Iraq, should know that they are apostates and outside the community of Muslims. It is permissible to spill their blood and take their property."

One posting was an encouragement to get involved in jihad.

It read, " How have you forgotten your religion, abandoned your glory, and stayed put instead of rushing to defend the religion of Allah? Are you content with staying behind? Did you think that glory and honor were meant to belong to the Kafirs? Didn't you know that Allah made glory and honor to belong to Allah, his messenger, and the believers? Don't you feel any pain when you see the enemy of Allah and your enemy step with his filthy feet on your land which was made yours by the blood of your fathers?

"Don't you feel ashamed that the filthy Kafirs humiliate you and use you as slaves while not too long ago you were the masters of this world? Don't your hearts shake and don't you feel any anger seeing what the enemies of Allah are doing to your brothers and sisters? How could you see your brothers and sisters here and in neighboring towns being tortured and humiliated and continue to eat, drink and enjoy life."

Another group e-mail read, "In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Beneficent: A Message to our Muslim brothers in Iraq. Alsalam Alikom Wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakato. (Koran verse) Oh Believers, be pious to God, and never die but when you are believers in Islam.
BBC: In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate. A message to our Muslim brothers in Iraq, may God's peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you. O you who believe fear Allah, by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden as He should
be feared. Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always, and die not except in a state of Islam [as Muslims] with complete submission to Allah."

The public postings continued to be troublesome. While the next one was posted by KM, again, due to the correct spelling and narrative, I believe this was probably copied.

It read, "The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies -- civilians and military -- is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque [Mecca] from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty Allah."

Another e-mail (probably copied again) posted by KM read, "What America is tasting now, is something insignificant compared to what we have tasted for scores of years. Our nation (the Islamic world) has been tasting this humiliation and this degradation for more than 80 years. Its sons are killed, its blood is shed, its sanctuaries are attacked, and no-one hears and no-one heeds. When God blessed one of the groups of Islam, vanguards of Islam, they destroyed America. I pray to God to elevate their status and bless them.

"Millions of innocent children are being killed as I speak. They are being killed in Iraq without committing any sins and we don't hear condemnation or a fatwa from the rulers. In these days, Israeli tanks infest Palestine - in Jenin, Ramallah, Rafah, Beit Jalla, and other places in the land of Islam, and we don't hear anyone raising his voice or moving a limb.

Another public posting from KM read, "U.S. interests are spread throughout the world. So, every Muslim should carry out his real role to champion his Islamic nation and religion. Carrying out terrorism against the oppressors is one of the tenets of our religion and Shari'ah.

"Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of God and your enemies.

Two arrested in last month's Egypt bombing

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) — Egyptian security forces on Friday arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of involvement in bloody bomb attacks last month in the resort city of Sharm el-Sheik.

The two were captured separately after a gunbattle in which two police officers were wounded when authorities raided the Sinai hideout of the bombing suspects, some 15 miles east of the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya, the interior ministry said.

The woman was captured with an automatic weapon after others in the group escaped the police ambush and fled into the rugged Sinai mountains, the ministry said in a statement. Hours later the man was caught trying to dodge a checkpoint near a tunnel under the Suez Canal.

Egyptian investigators were focusing on the likelihood that homegrown Islamic militant cells based in the Sinai, possibly with international links, carried out the July 23 Sharm el-Sheik attacks, in which two car bombs and a bomb in a knapsack ripped through a luxury hotel, a neighborhood full of Egyptians and the entrance to a beach promenade.

At least 64 people were killed. Last October, attacks in Taba and Ras Shitan, two other Sinai resorts, killed 34 people.
