A day (actually 2 yrs) in the life of President Bush (8/6/05): many photos

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: With the President, First Lady and the dogs relaxing at the ranch this weekend, there are no new photos to post. So I've selected a theme -- GWB and our Armed Forces -- and found many photos to let us enjoy a walk down memory lane. The theme photos are all from early in his presidency. They show GWB's closeness with our military both before and after 9/11/01.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Monday, the President travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He will be touring the Sandia Laboratory there, and then will be making remarks after signing the comprehensive energy legislation that passed recently.

Tuesday, the President is going to have his economic advisors to the ranch. He will participate in a briefing with them on the state of our economy. Afterwards, GWB will make some remarks and participate in a press availability.

Wednesday, President Bush will traveling to Aurora, Illinois, where he will sign the transportation legislation. Aurora is the largest town in the north-central Illinois congressional district of House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

Saturday, tentative, but the President usually participates in an RNC event in August at the ranch. As of yesterday, the President's schedule was not firmed up beyond Wednesday.

QUOTE OF THE DAY Excerpt from the presidential radio address, Saturday, August 6, 2005:

As families across the country enjoy the summer, Americans can be optimistic about our economic future. In the past four years, our economy has been through a lot: we faced a stock market decline, a recession, corporate scandals, an attack on our homeland, and the demands of an ongoing war on terror.

To grow the economy and help American families, we acted by passing the largest tax relief in a generation. And today, thanks to the tax relief and the efforts of America's workers and entrepreneurs, our economy is strong and growing stronger.

This past week, we learned that America added over 200,000 new jobs in July. Since May of 2003, we've added nearly 4 million new jobs. The unemployment rate is down to 5 percent, below the average of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. And more Americans are working today than ever before in our nation's history.

We need to make the tax relief permanent, end the death tax forever, and make our tax code simpler, fairer and more pro-growth.

Crawford Police Chief Donnie Tidmore, right, pauses during a confrontation with [scuzzy Leftist] anti-war protesters who brought their message to Crawford following a march with a mother whose son died during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 in Crawford, Texas. The face-off ended without incident or arrests.

'Veterans for Peace' protesters demonstrating against the military policies of President Bush are stopped by Crawford City Police Department officers from trespassing onto school property in Crawford, Texas, August 6, 2005. About 70 [scuzzy Leftist] anti-war protesters marched towards Bush's ranch on Saturday shouting "bring the troops home now." The group was stopped about 5 miles (8 km) from the ranch.

Gordon Soderburgh of Humboldt Bay, Calif., center, and other Veterans for Peace anti-war protesters [all from other states] were stopped by a Crawford police officer from coming on to school property following a march in Crawford. The local Crawford school is being used as temporary workspace for White House press traveling with President Bush. [The only purpose for this so-called march and attempt to invade the school was to get media coverage. Soon as the scuzzy Leftists got what they came for, they left.]

So do you think the media will report that the guy standing on the bus steps in the #2 photo appears to be flipping the bird to the cops? Or that most of this group of 70 or so appear to be aging 1960's Leftist radicals trying to relive their youth?

Hi, STARWISE. Not much to report today, but I thought folks would enjoy this brief update. Catch that white-haired Willie Nelson wannabe. Apparently that guy never mentally matured past 22 or so. Wonder if he had a guitar on the bus, and if they were all singing "Where have all the flowers gone" on the trip to Crawford.

Yeah, 16 sounds about right. Retired teachers...never thought of it, but that makes sense considering how the Left flooded into academia a couple of generations ago (at least).

I do not know if that is the case the US as it is in the UK but in England if you made that statement most people would not have a clue what you were talking about and had never ever noticed the left wing bias of their teachers.

I have to admit apart from one teacher where is was so obvious I did not realise that many others were until many years later.

OH MAN HOTTIE ALERT

LOL! Good day, Seven. From the female perspective, Dubya is a hottie in his jeans and cowboy hat. It's possible he's the hottest President ever, because looking back over history, I sure don't see any sitting president his equal in the hottie department. President Reagan was a great-looking man in his younger years, but was no longer a youthful man when he became president.

...most people would not have a clue what you were talking about and had never ever noticed the left wing bias of their teachers.

It's probably true here, also. Certainly most younger children wouldn't recognize political bias in their teachers. Perhaps some high school kids might if they had an interest in politics. If a young person notices bias in their teachers at all, it's usually not until late high school or in college.

...motley crew...

Grin...that's what they were, for sure. I think this photo is funny as heck. The aging radical with his arms crossed probably thought he could deal with the "backwoods, hick town" cop, but it's obvious that cop wasn't about to be pushed around by some dweeb from San Francisco (or wherever).

In the meantime, the old Willie Nelson wannbe has himself craned so far out of the window of the bus that he almost looks like a cut out doll.

Robin Cook was no fan of mine especially over the affair and later divorce and remarriage but the one thing I will say at least he had the courage and conviction to resign from the government over his opposition to the Iraq war. Rather than carp on about it to the press he actually resigned there and then. I may not have cared for his politics or his moral/sexual behaviour but as far as his political life was concerned he was an honest man.
