PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: With the President, First Lady and the dogs relaxing at the ranch this weekend, there are no new photos to post. So I've selected a theme -- GWB and our Armed Forces -- and found many photos to let us enjoy a walk down memory lane. The theme photos are all from early in his presidency. They show GWB's closeness with our military both before and after 9/11/01.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
Monday, the President travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He will be touring the Sandia Laboratory there, and then will be making remarks after signing the comprehensive energy legislation that passed recently.
Tuesday, the President is going to have his economic advisors to the ranch. He will participate in a briefing with them on the state of our economy. Afterwards, GWB will make some remarks and participate in a press availability.
Wednesday, President Bush will traveling to Aurora, Illinois, where he will sign the transportation legislation. Aurora is the largest town in the north-central Illinois congressional district of House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
Saturday, tentative, but the President usually participates in an RNC event in August at the ranch. As of yesterday, the President's schedule was not firmed up beyond Wednesday.
QUOTE OF THE DAY Excerpt from the presidential radio address, Saturday, August 6, 2005:
As families across the country enjoy the summer, Americans can be optimistic about our economic future. In the past four years, our economy has been through a lot: we faced a stock market decline, a recession, corporate scandals, an attack on our homeland, and the demands of an ongoing war on terror.
To grow the economy and help American families, we acted by passing the largest tax relief in a generation. And today, thanks to the tax relief and the efforts of America's workers and entrepreneurs, our economy is strong and growing stronger.
This past week, we learned that America added over 200,000 new jobs in July. Since May of 2003, we've added nearly 4 million new jobs. The unemployment rate is down to 5 percent, below the average of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. And more Americans are working today than ever before in our nation's history.
We need to make the tax relief permanent, end the death tax forever, and make our tax code simpler, fairer and more pro-growth.
Here in San Diego during WWII on top of Convair,
maker of the B-24, etc. there were little villeges built
to throw off the Japanese if they flew over.
We were the stageing area for the Pacific during the
war also for View Nam.
A second cousin of mine came home in a box, Batan Death March.
My Dad and my brother spent a great deal of their lives in planes (Air Crew and airline Captain), so we have a family affinity for airline movies that are based on some reality.
The High and the Mighty was written by a pilot, as was Fate is the Hunter (Glenn Ford starring).
Well, I'll probably know next week how it squares with my memory of it.
Tall in the Saddle was still good, despite being B&W and low budget special effects.
There is a web site by a Brit in honor of a relative
who was a flying Fortress Pilot B-17 who went down
with his plane to save a British Town.
They still each yr have a memorial service for him and
his crew in Eng. He is burried at Arlington.
Au contraire .. I think it has quite a bit of depth and dimension ..(looks like Hulk to me ;).
GWB's surprise Thanksgiving visit to Iraq was the absolute best. I'll never forget the introduction they did-- was it Rummy who said "hey is there anyone more senior than I am here?" The roar when they saw him was awesome.
Photos of GWB with any of the military branches are too cool. The one on the plane where he's embracing one of the troops reminds me of the one where he's comforting that young girl whose mom died in the WTC, so moving and so easy to see his natural compassion.
That's wonderful that they are still remembered and honored.
If my Dad had gone down with him, I wouldn't have been born, so I'm glad he was just the average American quietly doing his duty with pride.
...and that's just Moron and Gregory. HT is in a class by itself.
Not Rumsfeld - it was Bremmer.
"Giant" is a GREAT movie!!
Definitely not Rummy. May have been Bremmer.
And the winner of the toaster is.....CYBERANT!
Whoa Nellie
Lassie was an excellent actor.
Howdy, howdy!
No more trying to understand them .. it's a plague that must be eliminated, starting with the madrassas and righteous thinking Muslims finally becoming public with their disdain and rebukes of this evil.
Yeah, a-trolling we will go, a-trolling we will go, heigh-ho the derry-o, a-trolling we will go!!!!
Oh Bremmer, yes thank you-- I couldn't recall.
Never having stumbled across your photo threads before, I'm impressed and thankful to have found them. Nice job. BTTT.
