TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida State University doesn't plan to change its "Seminoles" nickname.
The NCAA decided today to ban schools using Native American names and symbols from hosting championship events. But Florida State President T-K Wetherell says he'll sue the NCAA for its - quote - "outrageous and insulting" decision.
Wetherell says - quote - "This university will forever be associated with the "unconquered" spirit of the Seminole Tribe of Florida."
The NCAA decided to ban the use of American Indian mascots by sports teams during its postseason tournaments. And nicknames or mascots deemed hostile or abusive won't be allowed on team uniforms at collegiate tournaments after February First.
The Seminole Tribe of Florida has issued a resolution supporting Florida State's "Seminoles" nickname.
I love the mascot. Really made my day.
All schools???
No, they don't play in 2005. I believe Iowa tate is waiting for the Seminoles to changes their name to the Semen Holes before adding them to their schedule....
NCAA = STUPID!
We need to look into that team name. Sounds like you are promoting the evil cattle industry that is causing heart attacks and enviromental rape of pristine areas where buffalo should be roaming...
>> "B.S. in Journalism" <<
That kind of sums it all up, doesn't it.
Yep...Eagles and Tigers are endangered in some places, so they're gonna have to protect their namesake. They will cancel all teams using endangered or near-endangered species to honor their contribution to society.
Washington NATIONALS: that's fascist!
Philadelphia Phillies: sounds sexist!
Someone else mentioned the "Utes" could just change the spelling to "Yoots"... Just draw attention to the NCAA's complete idiocy.
LOL.. Hawaii already did that.
This is the first decent thing that TK Wetherell has done in his lefty-lovin' life. I once had a telephone conversation with this slimeball in which he tried everything, including yelling at me like I was his boy, to stop me from busting him for publicly supporting Clinton in a campus newspaper. I had his sorry butt squealing like a rat trapped in a corner. He would not admit his guilt, even when I read him the words in which he was quoted, in a paper over which he exerted COMPLETE editorial control. I have full faith that he will bend to the PC powers on this.
Hopefully this case will lead to the dismantling of the NCAA organization, which has used as a tool of the Left for decades.
I seem to remember that the UMass teams used to be called the "Redmen" back when I was at UNH ('60s). They were among the first to jump on the PC bandwagon (big surprise there, eh?) and have been the "Minutemen" for decades.
What really should happen is Syracuse and
Stanford ought to go back to their original names.
Not if he wants a paycheck. Alumnus has it's benefits. This has been all over the golf course down here in NW Fla. Coach Bowden is livid. He is the university, not dikwad Wetherell. Hopefully you Gators and those Canes will line up and support..my wife is a Gator and she thinks this is ridiculous. The state of Florida needs to be united in this fight. One falls, we all fall imo.
... "[Charlotte F. Westerhaus] brings a multitude of skills to this position, which is needed to challenge old mind-sets and ensure the value of diversity and inclusion is fully leveraged,"
Uttered by Floyd Keith, executive director of the Black Coaches Association and a member of the search committee.
Salon actually has an article that got a good laugh from me, at:

Reminds me of the South Park episode where PETA made the school get rid of its mascot (the noble Cows). The kids rigged the vote as a prank and came up with two alternatives -- Giant Douche or Sh*t Sandwich.
