How quickly the tune changes. Just days ago, our Freepers were themselves lauding this guy's conservative credentials. Now, they are lambasting Bush for nominating him.
But if we can't figure it out, then why do we expect Bush to? The fact is that no one will know how any nominee will vote until he's on the bench for about a year. All we can do is do our best, and hope that it suffices.
Right Wing Upset with Roberts Pro-Gay, Pro Bono Work
Thanks for letting me know. I wasn't aware I was supposed to be upset by this. I really have to start reading my E-mail.
The libs are now even clamoring for Roberts in house memos while he was Solicitor General, has any another nominee had to withstand such scrutiny?
Don't worry. Roberts will be confirmed and will probably get more than his share of Democratic votes. I doubt that any conservatives in the Senate will vote against him, just like they haven't voted against Bush's other proposals including increased farm subsides, Medicare prescription socialized medicine, etc. Once confirmed, will join the Souter faction of the court. Happy now?
He promised to nominate someone like Scalia or Thomas. Plus he's the President. It's in his job description.
I don't know Judge Roberts. I do know that everyone and their mom has an opinion of him.
The Dims hate him because GWB nominated him. The Right hates him because he doesn't appear to have a liberal killing attitude.
Why not let it play out, listen to the Senate hearings and get a feel for what Roberts really may be like?
After all ... It isn't like we get to vote, and no ... a petition to have him removed is a waste of good time.
Then you'd better start being upset! I'd recommend running around in circles shouting at the top of your voice and waveing your arms wildly.
I'm enjoying listening to Laura on the WABC feed following Sean and Mark.
There are no depths low enough that the Slimes will sink to in order to torpedo a real conservative nomination, doing background checks on 5 year old kids is disgusting.
Given the fact that judges now decide most of our major cultural decisions, I think they should all expect such scrutiny. It goes with the self-assigned power.
Maybe, but paying attention to this crap on Roberts is foolish.
Look at the key quotes in the article..
"John probably didn't recall [the case] because he didn't play as large a role in it as he did in others," Smith said Wednesday. "I'm sure John has a record somewhere of every case he ever argued, and Romer he did not argue. So he probably would have remembered it less.""
She said he gave her advice in two areas that were "absolutely crucial." "He said you have to be able to count and know where your votes are coming from. And the other was that you absolutely have to be on top of why and where and how the state court had ruled in this case," Dubofsky said.
The guy gave some collegial advice, yet they make it look like he got Romer turned over...fcol.
This is part of a ploy, to weaken Roberts right Flank, so when he is attacked from the left, his support is weak.
And Everybody's Resident Genius, ElRushbo, took it hook line and Sinker.
Laura said she might call into WABC after her hosptial treatments to give a thought on this development.
Problem with that theory is that highly principled people do not "game" the system that way. Only highly ambitious people do that, and they are rarely driven by principles.
That's not who we need on the Sup Ct.
I smelled Dubofsky's overstating Roberts role in the case from the beginning, the Times is probably just hoping that he was integral in winning the case (when he really had almost nothing to do with it)
I'm hoping the President selected a nominee that is an originalist but none of us can be assured that John Roberts is in that category.
What a disservice of cavemen. :-)
It's funny, really. The Lamestream media has now admitted that their influence over the Left is worthless because the Left is out of power. So now they have decided to try and sow discord on the Right.
Unfortunately for them, the vast majority of us are far too perceptive to fall for this lame attempt at divide-and-conquer. Roberts will be confirmed. The 'Rats are still out of power. And the Lamestream media is reduced to trying to influence Rush Limbaugh - "The Most Trusted Man In America" (take that CBS and Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite -- BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)
So you'll vote for a lefty instead? Brilliant!!!
