He's turning this country into Saudi Arabia. He does what he wants. He doesn't care what the people want."
No, he just doesn't do what you want. I visit many homes through out the Houston area on a daily basis. It is amazing how many people are so ignorant on world affairs. You enter their homes and they have the dial tuned to Jerry Springer or MTV. They are the first ones to put down Bush but can not even tell you the name of the Sec Defense or Sec of state. Thank god many of these people do not bother to vote.

Typical of the left-leaning American press. At least this one-liner made it:
Almost two-thirds in the poll described Bush as strong and likable.

Unfortunately, political realities prohibit Bush from saying the stark truth, which is:
We faced CERTAIN nuclear annihilation at the hands of Mideast sponsored world terrorism unless we took this step to intervene.
How to you explain the destruction of civilization to someone who's number one concern that week is fixing their pickup truck? The connection here is just a bit beyond the usual casual observer. These polls are beyond meaningless. Thank goodness there are a few FReepers around to try to talk some sense into folks.

Less than half of the populace votes, of the half that does not I would venture to say that 80% lean to the left.

Nearly two-dozen Marines are tragically killed in a few days, and the media just can't wait to run out and take a poll about Bush's handling of the war. I'd call that exploitation.
To: F14 Pilot
I think it IS time to take the fight into Syria, which seems to be the equivalent of Cambodia/Laos in terms of the terrorists finding safe haven and rearming with impunity there.

Your are right on the mark! I've been saying this for some time. I am a strong supporter of the President, but my faith is beginning to wane as I see his time running out without accomplishing the important things that need to be done. If we are sitting in the same position in Iraq next year at this time there will be a blood bath in the 06' election and it can be avoided through action not playing it safe.
To: thoughtomator
The American people are a fickle lot. If there is not some major breakthrough (like an election, etc) the polls are low. Additionally, the news media LOVES to have polls AFTER we've lost soldiers or other bad news. When the constitution is written, the polls will be up again.
To: F14 Pilot
I am not afraid of these polls. I think it is basically liberals mentally masturbating. They have nothing else to make themselves feel good: Iraq is going to be free, the economy is humming along, Bush's nominees are going to the jobs they've been assigned, and all their demonizations of conservatives are failing.
So they bring in a poll to try and knock Bush down a notch while he (and the rest of America) are on vacation in August.

EVERY loss of life in Iraq is a tragedy; you must admit that compared to past wars (VIetnam, WWII, etc) the numbers are vastly fewer. If the 1940s' press had covered the HUNDREDS of daily deaths occurring in WWII as the media does today, Germany and Japan would have won. The enemy knows what happened in Vietnam and Somalia...we cut and run. They are hoping we'll do the same here.
The media must not sugar coat war, however, servicemen that I personally know serving in Iraq are very frustrated that good work they are doing and the relationships they have forged in many of the provinces in Iraq are not covered at all. I think a little bit of balance would honor those fighting AND bring them home sooner. The enemy gets CNN and derive hope from any weakness they see in our resolve. If the west had been unified in bringing the terrorists to account (no excuses for them!!) we would be closer to victory.
In the meantime, I pray that Iraq has their election which the insurgents are SO trying to thrwart so that our servicemen and women can come home!
