No interest in the Air America scandal?

No interest in the Air America scandal?

Hugh Hewitt has a good piece on the mainstream media's apparent lack of interest in the Air America scandal. It appears that Air America, the liberal talk radio network, received in its startup period a six-figure loan from the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx. This is an organization that receives most of its funds from government agencies and is supposed to provide services to children and Alzheimer's patients. It is apparently stone broke right now, and Air America says that it will pay the money back–but not when.

Hugh is quite correct in noting that if a community service organization had funneled money to a conservative talk radio operation, the New York Times would have been all over the story and New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who has oversight responsibility for nonprofits, would be threatening lawsuits and churning out press releases. But so far the Times is silent (maybe everyone is out in the Hamptons, and who wants to cover the tacky Bronx?) and Spitzer is motionless. All of which brings to mind the perhaps apocryphal remark of the late Congressman Jimmy Burke, a Massachusetts Democrat. Speaking with contempt of a young idealistic liberal colleague, Burke is supposed to have said, "That guy is so dumb he thinks this place is on the level."

Michael Barone is a senior writer for U.S.News & World Report and principal coauthor of The Almanac of American Politics. He has written for many publications — including the Economist and the New York Times.

I love this story. I can't get enough of it. It makes me so happy...

Al Frankenberry wining and dining with Yoko Ono and Time Robbins on the Boys and Girls Club money at a $70,000 party to launch this turkey. It is SO bad.

Anyway - $900,000 a year ago? What would the interest rate be on a commercial loan for a shaky start-up with a bad credit history - 20-25% you figure? So, then, how much is REALLY owed now?

Guess what - while they are waiting for this story to go away - they CAN'T pay it back. They just don't have a million bucks lying around. So that "pay it back LATER" crap means pay it back NEVER.

Ditto, but don't they have tables, chairs and mics they can sell to pay back that nine hundred k? Al's Ring Ding allowance must be at least that much.

Al probably blew all his dough at "Adult" gift and book stores.

The graft and corruption of lefties is one of the constants in the universe. Air America, the DNC, the CPSU, etc are fueled with graft.

From the MSM's POV, it's like a story about whether your septic tank overflow will reach your back door or flow into your neighbor's property.

Pay it back? Has anyone done follow-up on the occasional "hand in the cookie jar" bust on the occasional democratic fundraiser and all the promises to pay it back?

And it's not that there's no interest - it's just that the dinosaurs won't howl about it. Honestly, if it weren't for FR I would have never heard about this.

Boy, the looney left is running in many directions these days. Now, their efforts are split between Rove, Robert's kids, and Lord knows what other dead-end non-issue. I think that the whole left suffers from ADD.

Evidently because Franken thinks "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me."

A rude awakening lies ahead.

This definitely deserves a song. I'll try to get to it by the weekend. Can someone create about a dozen bullet points for the story?

Heard you on Mark Levin. Did he agree to be in film?

I feel the same way, but there's more than one story here.

First is the actual siphoning off of the money itself.

Then there's the deafening silence of the biased liberal MSM.

The next story is who gave permission to issue the checks to AA or whoever was associated with AA that siphoned off the money.

Where the stories go from here will be interesting to watch.

How can the Old York Times [not] cover this when they are trying to get to the bottom of the Judge Roberts adoption scandal??

Demonstrates like nothing else that the body of The New York Times has been taken over as if by a leftist zombie, and it is obeying only the leftist dictates, even though it will lead to the inexorable ruination of the institutional host.

"...if it weren't for FR I would have never heard about this."

A huge DITTO from ThirstyMan!

Where else is this being reported? Not even Drudge? He usually picks up these stories first. He broke the OJ story, the Monica story but not the Al Franken story?

Anyone been over to DU or Daily Kos to see what they are saying about this? Other than it's Bush's fault!

So now it's $900K? Yesterday it was $800K. It's climbing the scandal charts.
