Hello, fellow freepers. There seems to be heavy C130 flyings over the Dallas, and Acworth, Georgia areas this evening. I've seen several passes just before dark and one has passed over my house at least four times in the past half hour, quite low for them. Anyone know what is up?
Sure it's not a "Black Helicopter" disguised as a C-130?
Where's my tin-foil, dang-it?
Loose lips sink ships.
Let's see Army Ariborne and Ranger schools are in Georgia, as is a Ranger Battalion, if they are not deployed. There is also Ft. Stewart, GA. Could be a lot of things.
Dallas (GA) is just west of the Air Base/Lockheed facility in Marietta.
They regularly fly test flights of new built C130's west of Marietta over the country, rather than over the more heavily populated areas. But they do seem to do more test flights at night, i'd figure it'd be easier to trouble-shoot problem in the daytime.
Nothing new.
LOL!!!

Now THAT is funny!!!!
Misuse of apostrophe. Fifty-yard penalty.
Aren't they a sight to behold! We are about 20 miles from Dobbins and marvel at them when they fly over.
Not to let a good "black helicopter" story get out of hand, but it was probably mosquito spraying. I don't recall what time of year, but Guard/Reserve C-130's used to do it in Virginia every year. Several passes at treetop level right around dusk. It leaves a lasting impression if it happens to sneak in from behind you at a couple hundred feet...
C130's are built in Marietta if I'm not mistaken, just a few miles southeast of Dallas, Georgia. An aside -- there were several C130's that were sold to Iran back in the early 80's that sat on the tarmac rusting for many years. Don't know if they are still there, but was an amazing site when they were.
I heard several multi-turboprop style craft last week over the Athens area - to dark to discern though.
Dropping illegals into remote areas?
I'm about 12 or so miles south of Dobbins; I'm used to seeing them fly in and out of there from time to time. Many times, the Guard will fly them west out of Dobbins for nighttime runs over the country (for those who don't know, Acworth, GA is about fifteen miles north of Dobbins AFB; Dallas, GA is about fifteen to twenty miles west of Dobbins).
We see them all the time doing touch and go's at Bush Field in Agusta,GA.
We seem comming and going. There is normally 2 to 4 in a pack.
This is also the time of the year for reserve training at Dobbins. I can remember seeing 30 or more Herkies in the pattern during the first week of August. They made a very large, very interesting oval, and came in almost on top of Windy Hill Rd and Cobb Parkway.
