Gov. Rejects Request To Make Walleye Off-Limits

(WCCO) Gov. Tim Pawlenty sank an animal rights group's request Tuesday.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals asked Pawlenty to declare walleye off-limits for fishing.

PETA said a recent study showed fish are smart and feel pain.

In a written statement, Pawlenty said, "The PETA 'Fish Empathy Project' is nutty and misses the mark."

Pawlenty said PETA displayed "goofy judgment" and that fishing was not, as PETA claimed, the same as hooking a dog or cat through the mouth with a large hook and dragging it behind your car.

"Minnesota cares for its natural resources and fishing is part of our way of life," Pawlenty said.

He concluded saying, "Because of the letter, I am going out for a walleye dinner tonight."

I'd like to test whether PETA supporters feel pain.

Perhaps they think that by killing babies they won't be able to eat meat anymore and therefore save thousands of animal souls?

Walleye. It's what's for dinner.

And the cheeks are the best part. Especially on a walleye that size!

"PETA said a recent study showed fish are smart and feel pain."

Oh yeah...the one by that English broad that was roundly and soundly debunked.
Fish are not "smart" in any recognizable, measurable way. Fishermen just say that because they were too dumb to catch 'em.
The pain they feel is not our type of pain at all. [Why else do they pretty much lay relatively still while you wiggle out the hook?]

Way to go Gov.! More people need to tell these petapeeps to go jump.

"I'd like to test whether PETA supporters feel pain."

I have a good test in mind comparing the reaction of a PETA supporter to that of a fish.

In one swimming pool, an angler will hook and fight a fish with his bait of choice. A group of researchers shall document how the fish leaps and pulls despite the Peta claimed discomfort.

In an empty pool, a PETA specimen will bite into a tofu sandwich laced with a 5/0 hook connected to 200lb test line and a rod manned by a WWE wrestler. When the Peta specimen bites into the sandwich the wrestler will set the hook and subdue the specimen. Reseachers will document the specimen's reaction.

My bet is the peta specimen does not run or pull against the hook due to the pain.

MOst states would go belly-up even quicker if they had to cancel fishing and hunting licenses. Money to be made ALL around!!
Plus most people donate their fish and game to charity-benefit freezers.

Why is this covered as news? Why does liberal crap like this ever see the light of day?

WCCO is owned by CBS, but even then I expect better than this.

Minnesota has one of the best economies around and hunting and fishing are definitely contributing factors.

Who wanted to make him off-limits, anyway?

Such a nice kid.

Culture of death vs. culture of life. My wife had trouble getting this same point. The logical consequences of the attempt by PETA and others to ban horse and dog racing will result in the mass slaughter of these then relatively useless animals. Not that each individual dog or horse is useless but do we have sponsors for a million horses that can't run and twice that many greyhounds? Raise your hands.
The abortion fans and PETA folks are similar in their quality of life emphasis. Better to never live than live like that, they say. Their opponents, us, think differently. Better to live.
Another way to regard these folks is this: They treat dogs like people should be treated and they treat people like dogs.

PETA would prefer to euthanize the Wallleye in a safe and humane way.
