This is not normally a statement which would raise eyebrows - Corzine being a liberal Democrat; but Corzine's love seems a bit stronger than most:
"TRENTON, Aug. 3 - Senator Jon S. Corzine provided a $470,000 mortgage to the president of a union that represents thousands of New Jersey state employees in late 2002, then forgave the debt two years later.
The union president, Carla Katz, was Mr. Corzine's girlfriend at the time. The senator said on Wednesday that an investment company he owns gave her the mortgage, then canceled it in December 2004, several months after they had stopped dating."
It is a New York Times story, so it is pitched in the nicest manner possible - oddly saying that Corzine cancelled the loan when what he did was forgive the loan..."cancel" making it sound more like he stopped it from happening, you see?. Imagine if this were a GOP Senator who loaned hundreds of thousands of dollars to his girlfriend who worked as an oil industry lobbyist, and then forgave the debt. It does raise a few questions:

NJ corrupt politics. I am so used to this crap I am not even fazed any more.
Gosh, wonder if I can convince my mortgage company to "cancel" my loan?
Thanks, but like I said, being from NJ I am so used to the corruption that I am not even effected anymore. The inner city keeps putting these libs in power. I am from a red county up north.

You mean the Dems and the liberal media would try and make it sound like something impropper was done.
Politicians don't usually try and bribe union officials.
This really does seem to be a personal issue between two people who had a relationship and that relationship didn't work out.
He split from his wife of 33 years in 2002, and their divorce became final in late 2003.

So Carla Katz is the hot pastrami Jon cut the mustard with that put the kibosh to his marriage.
Snort. Jon-Boy wouldn't be in a dilly of a deli if he'd had enough sense to hold the pickle (poster laughs uproariously).
I wouldn't exactly call Bergen County (vote for Gore and Kerry), Manalapan, Cranbury, to say nothing of all the counties in south Jersey that voted for Gore and Kerry, to be "inner city" areas.

TIDBIT Last fall, Mr. Corzine went on a mega-millions spending spree--purchasing party bosses support for his gubernatorial race---- Corzine gave the maximum allowable $37,000 donation to New Jerseys Bergen County Democratic Organization,
and Mr. Corzine's 89-year-old mother, a retired schoolteacher in Illinois, donated $37,000 to the Bergen organization as well.
Boy did I misunderestimate ol Jon. I guess a half a mill gets you a pretty good one. Beats the hell out of:
"Hey Saila! 2 dolla."
Man, Corzine musta got drenched when he tossed that hot potato salad. Lotta un-dressing going on. Laundry bill for bed linen musta got expensive.
I am in a red county trapped in a blue state.
Union endorses Cozine.
The members of Local 1034 enthusiastically endorse Jon Corzine for Governor. Jon brings new ideas, new energy and new creativity to the Statehouse and will lead New Jersey in a fresh direction, said CARLA KATZ, President, CWA Local 1034. Jon Corzine has consistently stood with and stood up...
