A Deafening Silence on Air America

Air America--or Air Scamerica, or Air Enron--is engulfed in scandal. It now appears clear that the far-left radio network obtained critical funding by misappropriating money earmarked for poor children and Alzheimer's victims from the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club, a nonprofit organization. For the latest, read Hugh Hewitt's interview of Michelle Malkin on Hugh's show last night; Radio Blogger (Hugh's producer, Duane Patterson) has the transcript.

Hugh and Michelle have both been delving into the scandal. Hugh has tried to contact members of the Gloria Wise board of directors; all declined to appear on his show, and one said that all inquiries are being directed to a Manhattan public relations firm. That's rather curious--where does a nonprofit that is now defunct, having been fleeced by Air America, get the money to hire an expensive PR firm so its board members won't have to answer questions? Michelle's new column, which will be out tomorrow morning and is available now on the web, sums up the facts known so far and wonders why "leaders" like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have been silent.

Of course, they're not the only ones. The New York Times has yet to print a single word about the scandal; when the Times last covered Air America, it was to promote Al Franken as a Senate candidate. Normally, one might expect the Times to be interested in this kind of story. In today's paper, for example, the Times covers a much more boring controversy in which Westchester County's District Attorney is being pressed to reimburse the county for the expense of after-hours security. The story is a yawner. The DA has a legitimate argument that she needs 24-hour security because of her job; there are no falsified reports or conflicting stories; no one is stealing money from poor children or Alzheimer's victims; and no one is funding a controversial political and commercial enterprise. Yet the Times finds the story newsworthy, while ignoring Air Enron, which is also taking place in its own back yard. Why? Well, maybe because it's because the Westchester DA is a Republican, Jeanine Pirro, who is interested in higher office. Or maybe it's because no hard work--like actually carrying out an investigation--was necessary; all the Times had to do was quote Democratic Party spokesmen.

Or maybe both.

Such brave, upstanding people.

Nothing new here!

Liberals have been stealing from the poor, sick and crippled for decades.

Stealing their souls too.

But the drumbeat is getting a little louder by the day.

The Dem defense talking points are being prepared as we speak, incase this gains too much traction.

Ten years ago the NY Fishwrap might have gotten away with killing this story. Not now. The NYF is SO yesterday...

As someone pointed out on another thread, if this had involved Rush or some other conservative talk-radio station, it would be big news, just as the Sandy Berger story would have been huge if he'd been a Republican.

"when the Times last covered Air America, it was to promote Al Franken as a Senate candidate"

Is that true? If so, the NYT editorial board is an even bigger embarrassment than I thought.

I lover Powerline. These guys truly rock.

Have you ever listened to them on the radio. Each saturday afternoon from 12-3 Central Time, they are part of a Minnesota-based show called the Northern Alliance Radio Network.

You can listen to them via the web at http://www.northernallianceradio.com.

"For a Hamburger today, I will gladly pay you Tuesday" Wimpy from Popeye.

So "Air America agreed to pay pack the loan in the future. Think I can get away with that at my bank? "Hey, lend me $865K and I'll pay you back sometime in the future." And what was the interest rate on this risky loan? Haven't heard that yet.

Al Frankin is a big fat thief!

What I brought up on Hugh's show the other day is this sounds like a money laundering operations. The rich donor that wants to support air america but wants the tax write off for the money, approaches a non profit, arranges a donation to that non profit, tells them to buy air time on air america that way they support the local air america market, the non profit generates some donations from the commercials and I would imagine then skims a portion of the donation for the officers of the non profit. Then the donor gets to show a tax write off to that non profit while actually supporting air america.

If there are non profits advertising on air america around the country I would speculate that is what is happening. I have worked with non profits, there is no way they have money just lying around for dump into a non preforming radio market. Why would you buy air time where the marketing shows people are not listening?

The NY Slimes and other left wing mediots are doing their spiking of real news on this crime while keeping their fantasy of Rove exposing Plame going.

Likewise, the left wing AG of NY, Elliot Spitzball has been silent on this.

Err Amerika is loaded with criminals, and the NY Slimes and Elliott Spitzball see nothing, hear nothing and are saying nothing.

Have you ever listened to that Show? all it is is Al Franken bashing Bush and the War..the whole show! every day , all day.

Every sentence has about 3-4 Lies or Errors spewed out
without any corrections.

I predict that Al Franken will get more and more Vile in His attacks as the Show dies a slow death.

The Free market has proclaimed a death sentence for
"Welfare-America"
