Breaking News from CFRB 1010AM News Radio - Toronto
Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.
I was repeating from another site, that guy was wrong, I didn't look up the runway numbers at YYZ.
When info is sketchy this happens.
But info from the media like a Lufthansa 737 is highly dubious, unless it is a Privatair charter or a ferry flight.
Just a thought...LOL
Only in the real world. Not here, my friend, not here.
OH MAN Thank GOD
Thanks you lucky stars
I was away from the computer but watching on TV.
The first pictures looked like no one could have survived. I'm guessing the fire did not erupt immediately giving them time to use the slides to get out. It is a big jump out of one of those if you chose to go out that way!!
Are you referencing Dick Ebersol's crash in Montrose, CO?
From a passenger via CNN - the crew was telling the passengers to jump out of the emergency exits.
Others have pointed out later on this thread that it may be standard procedure with this airline, or with a scarebus craft.
Everyone was 'running like crazy': passenger
Last Updated Tue, 02 Aug 2005 18:18:06 EDTCBC News
A passenger on the Air France jet that skidded off a runway while landing at Toronto's Pearson International Airport Tuesday said people were "running like crazy" after the plane came to an abrupt stop.
All 309 people aboard the Airbus A340 survived the ordeal. Fourteen people suffered minor injuries in the accident.
"It was very rough weather as we approached the runway. I sort of thought we were coming in a little too fast," said passenger Roel Bramar, describing the landing in an interview with CBC News.
"But the landing appeared to be OK until it sort of seemed that the captain wasn't able to apply sufficient braking power."
"We had a hell of roller coaster going down the ravine," he said.
"All I could think of was 'Get off!'"
Bramar said he was seated at the very back of the plane and was the second one off the plane, exiting from an emergency chute.
"Everyone around me was running like crazy," he said, adding that he thought the rest of the passengers were safe.
The plane landed during a severe thunderstorm.
"Just as we landed the lights turned off and that's unusual. I'm sure the bad weather was responsible," Bramar said.
"I sort of got the idea the captain wanted to lower the plane as quickly as possible because there was such a rough storm."

Ummm... no... You claim all this Aviation info and then you simply believe what you read on another site.
That's pretty lame. That's no better than you complaining on others here that were reporting bogus info. That other site is Media and that makes you no better than the 737 Claim. Same in my book.
Do your own research. This isn't the ONLY claim you've made in this thread that was wrong.
Flight attendants are human beings, we had someone try to hijack us once at DFW, and the guy beat the hell out of one of them, one of them locked herself and the key in the cockpit (that was the training), and another one got burned by him with a cigarette several times.
It was pretty nasty, the cops got on board and beat the guy to a bloody pulp, but the attendants didn't ever return to work. Its a thankless job, really easy, but taxing on the body, and you have to deal with some real scumbags. I had a friend get coldcocked in the face by a passenger once, and another that got beaten trying to get into the cockpit (pre 911).
That being said, I will never date a flight attendant again, too many crazy dates!
Nope, just me in my ongoing losing battle with the internet. Sorry everyone!
Why do you suppose the Candian Government did not allow any helicopter press coverage of the incident?
I got flamed so badly back in '99 or '00, had to permanently change my FR identity :)

No, I think it was in New Jersey or somewhere near there. Not too long ago... cockpit voice recorder was mysteriously erased, too. Hmmmm.
If I were to encounter a wind shear, I would want to be in a twin engined plane, because they are required to have more reserve power.
YOU WERE MICHAEL RIVERO!!!!???
