Breaking News from CFRB 1010AM News Radio - Toronto
Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.

14 minor injuries and no fatalities from a plane that wound up in a ravine, split into 2, and on fire? Nothing short of a miracle.

2001 is when the mod accounts were created. All mods have that date, but not on our regular accounts.

"It still seems awfully early to report everyone survived."
Yes it does, particularly with people scrambling out of the plane and running every which way, some perhaps in ambulances, others in buses, the plane still in flames, etc.

At mid-afternoon Tuesday, a spokesperson with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority said lightning was causing technical problems with the airport's lightning-detection system. What is wrong with this picture? That's kinda like saying smoke kept a smoke detector from working.

I flew Frontier Air in April and May - I think the planes were by Airbus - and the cabin lights were turned off during take-off and landing. I think it's routine.
To: TomGuy
Only cause given at this time, is the aircraft overshot runway by 200 meters.

That's it. As soon as my income stabilizes, I'm gonna go get me a Star Choice or Bell ExpressVu system to complement my DirecTV.

The airplane on Lost is a scrapped Delta L1011. Petronski ~ No wonder they crashed! They should have bought a new one, or considered leasing...
Or a cruise...

What does creationism have to do with an airplane crash?Okay, I don't care how much it bugs my husband, when I get back from my daughter's baseball game, I'm checking back here to read the whole thread. :)
goodnight, all, and I certainly hope the reports are true and everyone got out alive. It certainly beats the speculation about a deadly microburst.

News conference: as far as they know, passengers were off the plane before flames erupted, but unconfirmed.
To: mitchbert
CNN Live Presser:
Cannot speculate if there was any pre-warning of problems on the flight.
Cause to be dealt with later through Safety Board.
Aircraft was cleared of passengers before fire broke out.
