Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.

I have to hand it to Canadian authorities for keeping the highways open....that is efficiency! They could teach the Georgia DOT and the APD a thing or three...

CTV.ca News Staff A passenger jet burst into flames after skidding off the runway while attempting to land at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.
There is no word on any casualties and the number of passengers on board was not immediately available. But police have confirmed that a pilot and a number of passengers were taken to hospital.
...
Passenger account
Passenger Oliver Dubos, speaking to CTV's Tom Clark by phone from a nearby emergency room, said that just before the plane was about to land, the lights in the cabin went "all black -- no more lights."
The plane then went off the runway, and the plane was suddenly in the ravine. "We opened the emergency doors, there were lots of flames, and we just tried to escape," Dubos said. "There was a lot of gas and smoke."

MSNBC reporting that EMS was on the scene within 90 seconds and they are saying most of the passengers/crew were already off the plan when EMS arrived. Ensuing fire/explosions happened after the passengers were off the plane.
Gotta hand it to the flight crew for getting the passengers out in such rapid fashion.

Let's put it this way. If you make another personal attack on this thread you'll be suspended.
Your decision.

They routinely dim cabin lights while landing, even if clear weather, so don't know if that means much...

I gathered that from reading other posts. I replied to one that said it was a CNN interview... No biggie...

Oh chill out the whole bunch of you. If you read what I wrote in context you'd get my meaning through my admittedly stupid and crappy phrasing.
Creationism is a competing ANSWER for the question of creation. Of course it's not a science-based one--you all seem to have ignored that I began my post by pointing out I don't believe in Creationism--but Creationism is of sufficient popularity that it SHOULD be taught in a science course about evolution if only to show how significant opposition exists.
You knew the point I was making, but you're just as hysterical as the Creationists.

CNN has been using Global's video feed since the onset - so I've been mostly watching Global direct.
I'm well under 2 miles due south of the point of impact and the weather was pretty bad at that time - lots of big time lightening, brief power outages, etc. I felt the impact of at least one of the explosions afterward.
Most of the video being shown seems to be being taken from the Dixie Rd. bridge over the 401 and the crash site is on the North side of the highway immediately East of there.
Doubt the media really has as much of an idea as to possible fatalities as it's letting on at this point.
