Breaking News from CFRB 1010AM News Radio - Toronto
Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.

Eye witness is calling in from across the roadway, says they can feel the heat from the fire across the traffic lanes.
CTV saying possibly too much weight on board.
Skeptical too.
Just reporting what I'm hearing on the radio in Toronto.
Other posters have heard the same on Chicago station.
Passengers being picked up by motorists on the highway.
CFRB just reported that some reporters are already talking terrorism. Talking head stated THERE IS NO evidence of this. How true.
Some eyewitnesses have said they saw a lightning strike. Others have said there was NO lightning strike.
Pilot on line now (not the pilot of the crashed plane). They are discussing landing in that sort of weather.
The pilot is stating that on THAT particular runway, the pilot needs to be able to SEE to land. Can't land via instruments. Witnesses in the area during the crash say that the rain, lightning, wind, etc., were horendous. Couldn't see to drive.
Talking head bringing up lightning strike. Pilot says, in the air lightning no problem. On the ground the plane is grounded too. Lightning SHOULDN'T affect the plane in anyway. He is discussing hydroplaning (a possible cause).
Press conference at 5:00 Toronto time.
Air France #358 for sure. They know there are many survivors, but don't know any numbers.
Motorists are stopping on the 401. Emergency personnel are telling them to move on.
All flights into the airport have been held (normal procedure).
Will continue, after commericial break.
Must be the brother of the Airbus whose computer landed it in trees at a Paris airshow a few years ago.
This one just didn't want to take off.

Sadly, in this day and age, terrorism as the cause comes to mind first.
Time will tell the cause of this.
In the meantime, here's one of the first witness reports:

Too much weight?
Only a factor on takeoff, after 9 hours of flying, the plane is light.
That's probably why there were so many survivors. No bottleneck at the exits.

This thing is hot, they are blowing foam/water directly on it, and it's still flaming.
Eyewitness on CNN said he observed no one leave the aircraft. Per CNN witness being interviewed.

If the same condiditons happened to a Boeing, Dougless, or Lockheed plane, the same thing would happen.
