Breaking News from CFRB 1010AM News Radio - Toronto
Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.
Oh my gosh. Prayers for all on board!
Could have been a downburst then; I believe we had 3+ crashes related to them in the US about 20 years ago, led to a lot of changes and there have been none since.
Sounds pretty grim from what I am watching on Fox. Just tuned in about 4 minutes ago : (((
Prayers for all.
Wonder if it might be wake turbulence? Sometimes when there are thunderstorms in the area they really try to cram planes into the narrow windows of opportunity they get.
Regardless, the more photos I see, the more sick to my stomach I feel. It really does not look very good. Ugh.
Gosh, this is so weird....I think this is the 20th anniv. of Flight 191 going down at D/FW airport...
Are any pictures showing emergency shutes deployed?
Or was this a cargo plane?
These types of storms they have up there today are usually amongst the most severe in the Northeast US/Southern Canada. One died a bit nearing Toronto... it might have thrown out some weird winds.
That's possible - that was the wind speed recorded at 4:20 PM local time, and the weather station is less than 2 miles from the crash site...
Aircraft and area completely engulfed in grey smoke now.

Camera guy seems to be more interested in the traffic tie up nearby.

Cam 37 near airport has best shot. Server is bogging down.
Entire Pearson airport website is down.

A guys wife called him from her cell phone. She, and many others, got off the plane. They are holed up under a bridge by the 401.
They have the husband on hold. Trying to get his wife on the line.
Not sure how many people are with her.
Couldn't have been much of an impact, on landing, if they were able to get out.
You are right.
