WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following is a fact sheet released today by the Democratic National Committee:
The White House this weekend announced that President Bush received good news during his annual physical. Doctors pronounced the President to be in "superior" physical condition, which media reports attributed to his rigorous, six day a week exercise routine. While President Bush has made physical fitness a personal priority, his cuts to education funding have forced schools to roll back physical education classes and his Administration's efforts to undermine Title IX sports programs have threatened thousands of women's college sports programs.
"President Bush's has dropped the ball when it comes to fully funding physical education in public schools and women's athletic programs at the college level," said Democratic National Committee spokesman Josh Earnest. "His personal habits indicate that physical fitness is not just fun and games for him. Don't our kids deserve the same opportunities to be physically fit? President Bush should stop running from his responsibility and make sure that all American children have access to physical fitness programs."

I remember PE classes.... 55 minute class took 20 minutes to dress and undress, another 10-15 to line up for roll call, not leaving much time to do anything productive, kids rushed to class smelling like goats all day, straight to the vending machine.
Of course now we have all the problems of not offending others because they are fat, gay or disabled. It's a personal issue not a government issue. Blame gamenever ends with these liberals
I remember PE courses as being 5-10 minutes of exercise followed by whatever team sport was relevant for the season.
The team sport aspect was pretty useless since the kids who needed the physical conditioning the most gravitated to the sidelines and didn't do much of anything.
It's worse than absurd - it's down right scary.
I don't expect anything from the governemnt, but that doesn't mean I should not take advantage of some programs that are offered, such as the County's summer program for kids. It's funded by the county, which means my tax dollars, so I paid the nominal fee figuring she could go a couple times a week and be with her friends and mom could get some stuff done arund the house/garden.
And it's a good thing I did.....2 weeks into the program I broke my ankle and am unable to drive to take her places and do things. At least this way she does get to play a little bit more than if she was stranded home with mom until dad gets home from work everyday.
So for me, a government program did help out a lot........but it was due to an unnatural turn of events, as opposed to me thinking it is the natural course of things.
My PE class was almost the same -- we only had team sports like softball, and I being the short fat kid, was picked last, if at all. So I derived very little physical activity from PE.
I'm fat because I have been irresponsible. The same applies to just about every other fat person. In the case of the children, you can rest some of the blame perhaps on the parents not providing the right food or encouraging their children to exercise. But no, being fat is not a school problem, not a societal problem, not a government problem.

Awww, you mean these kids are going to have to do things kids used to do, like ride bikes, walk to class, etc? Gee, that's a real shame.
What cuts are those? Funding for education under Bush has only gone up. Besides, any "cut" would be coming after his unprecedented increase in education spending, so they really couldn't be called "cuts."

I believe more than jsut some of the blame is on the parents, I place the majority of the blame there. not all, but the lion's share.

You've just got to wonder what the focus groups and polling numbers are telling these a-holes, that they so obviously think they are gaining ground by nitpicking about something so politically inconsequential as physical fitness.
Sounds like they walked into a Wal-Mart for the very first time in their lives, discovered that a large number of the people in there are obese, and decided to capitalize on that "trend" by fostering resentment.
Sooo, I guess, then, that we're looking at the early stages of yet another manufactured, key voting bloc - like "Soccer Moms" or "NASCAR Dads," but now we'll have the "Wal-Mart Fatties," who just hate that anyone else is in better shape, financially or physically, than they are. The Dims are just trying to make Hillary's thunder thighs an asset, instead of "baggage," LOL.
Perhaps it's more a matter of them knowing that the only people listening to them are stupid so they really don't have to make any sense.
Unfortunately for the DNC there is no amount of exercise that will cure mental illness.
Any time Dems don't get money to fund their huge indoctrinization programs in schools, they claim Bush is cutting necessisary programs. It's the schools that are wasting money on unnecessisary progrmas while allowing educational programs to suffer that are the problem.
Schools have gotten increases in funding over the years, and our children were getting increasingly worse educations.
Physical education programs in schools are also inadequete to get children into decent physical shape.
Physical exercise starts at home where parents need to make their kids get off the couch and get outside and get some exercise.
A gym class a few times a week isn't going to do a lot for a kid that spends the rest of their time watching tv or playing video games.
