WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following is a fact sheet released today by the Democratic National Committee:
The White House this weekend announced that President Bush received good news during his annual physical. Doctors pronounced the President to be in "superior" physical condition, which media reports attributed to his rigorous, six day a week exercise routine. While President Bush has made physical fitness a personal priority, his cuts to education funding have forced schools to roll back physical education classes and his Administration's efforts to undermine Title IX sports programs have threatened thousands of women's college sports programs.
"President Bush's has dropped the ball when it comes to fully funding physical education in public schools and women's athletic programs at the college level," said Democratic National Committee spokesman Josh Earnest. "His personal habits indicate that physical fitness is not just fun and games for him. Don't our kids deserve the same opportunities to be physically fit? President Bush should stop running from his responsibility and make sure that all American children have access to physical fitness programs."

Near as I can tell, the President doesn't rely on anybody's physical fitness program to keep in shape. Rather he laces up his shoes, runs out the door, and pounds the pavement. No reason anybody couldn't do that.
The concept of local school districts being responsible for the physical fitness regimen is anathema to liberals.
Federal education grants to the states have expanded by 38% in 4 years, to over 53 billion dollars this year.
Wrestling programs have been particularly had hit by the Title IX cuts because wrestling teams have large numbers and make an easy target for cuts to balance the numbers.
On the other hand, schools all over the country have been starting women's crew teams, despite the fact that they have to recruit members because there is little interest in the sport on campus.
"Don't our kids deserve the same opportunities to be physically fit?"
****
Sure they do. Trouble is they don't take advantage of the opportunities that are already there...and/or the parents don't encourage them to do so.
The concept of an individual being responsible for their personal behavior is anathema to liberals.
didn't they force McDonald's to label the fat content on food sold, because he didn't have any self control. All these DEMwits want money to fund, educate, manage our lifes and nothing ever comes of it. The party of the "children" can't seem to get off their fat a**es. They have critized everything this president does. They only want to do it after the fact (clinton and heart association)
LOL! I thought I hit the post buttom twice.
Not only does our local school district have physical fitness programs, the County sponsors all kinds of sports all year long for every age group. And they offer a 6 week parks and playgruonds program foro elemtary school kids in the summer...which my 7 year old has absolutely loved this summer.
But in the end it is not the school district or the County that should be responsible for this - it is parents, which is even more anethema to the liberals.
what happened to little league?
Thanks to the dems 'liberating' moms from child care and rushing them to the workplace and the long hours many work, kids are ferried from school to day care to afterschool programs, all graciously supplied by dems thanks to our tax dollars which mean mom has to work longer hours to make ends meet. And the dems will rush to her aid with more 'funded' (read: higher taxes) programs to help her work longer hours. Then mom and child (& dad if he's there, but who can keep a marriage working with all the long hours both work? No matter, they have a plan for that, too.) race home to a hastily prepared meal and household chores.
Computers, video game consoles, high fat/calorie/everything comfort foods...
Little time for little league. Then there's the perv factor. Our compassionate dems have 'released' perv's and other criminals because we all know how well they can be rehabilitated. And their temptations are cheap and easy to find (porn in videos, magazines, the internet...). Mom doesn't always feel so good about sending her little ones off to the boys & girls club or wherever until she gets home, so they entertain themselves with video games and tv shows. But that's ok, because the dems are working on that with their school breakfast and dinner programs.
But I'm guessing that most of us already knew that. ;-) Rant over... (for now).
"Ve haff vays of making you jog..."
40 situps and a mile run?
That is one area where the left has been successful. Convince Americans (at least if you believe polls) that all good things must come from the federal government, education among them. So now too many people expect their local schools to get funding from DC, and GWB! It is absurd, but it's what many citizens think is the natural course of things.
The first swimming pool built at the White House was completed in 1933 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt, who suffered from polio, built the pool in the West Wing so he could use it to help strengthen his upper body. The New York Daily News newspaper helped him raise money from American citizens to pay for construction of the pool.

There's probably Dorito crumbs all over the keyboard.
I appreciate everyone's input on this article. This health thing raises my hackles, as I am a big guy. I love to exercise, I love to sweat and feel healthy. And I don't need a God foresaken DIME of the government's money to go out and do it.
The education system in this country needs reform, no doubt, but the education systems in this country should be run by the STATES... not the Federal gov't. Look at Florida and what Jeb has done for us. Keep the state responsible, and it makes the Feds look like kings.
God Bless this Nation and our health, even if we ARE governed by a bunch of fata$$es (excepting some).
Title IX has destroyed men's track and field, baseball, wrestling and gymnastics. The fact is that most college athletic programs are paid for (sustained financially) by men's football and basketball. For example, baseball teams, often with a roster of 25 or 30 players, are limited to 10.7 scholarships, which are divided as many as 5 ways each. The main reason is that with parity in scholarships, the 85 scholarships alloted to football eat up many of the available scholarships for men. After subtracting 12 for basketball, there aren't that many left to go around for the other sports. However, football and men's basketball are the main revenue-producing sports, both in ticket sales and donations. The lack of scholarships in track and field and the other men's minor sports has seriously affected the US Olympics men's team performance compared to pre-Title IX. For example, the high water mark for the USA in wrestling occurred in the 1972 Munich Olympics.
