Just one week before the 2002 midterms, the president invited leaders in the fight for his judicial nominees to the White House to a lunch reception. A Clinton administration adviser who'd gotten wind of the event and thought it a waste of time had been overheard saying, "What does that rate as an issue with American voters--somewhere below campaign-finance reform?"
The answer, in fact, is that the issue of the judicial nominees mattered--and matters--a lot; you might even say it explains the current Republican margin in the Senate. Allow me to explain why.
Back in 2002, the conventional Beltway wisdom was that the American public simply did not take notice of a president's judicial nominees (except, of course, to the Supreme Court). As a result, Senate Democrats calculated that they could stall several nominees endlessly without having to pay a political price.
Republicans, however, saw it differently. After Democrats used scurrilous allegations to block federal District Judge Charles Pickering of Mississippi from the appellate bench in March 2002, Republicans noticed something new in their polls tracking the Democrats' "negatives": obstruction of judges.

Alas, they just can't help themselves...
These morons still don't get it.
The Web changed all the rules.
The poor, unwashed masses now get a robust picture, not a 10 second Rather sound bite.
Operative word highlighted. Theyt are just not capable.
Miranda is right, again.
The way he was treated by the GOP really irritates me, still.
Good. Because I would like to see every damn one of them with egg all over their faces. Those who obstruct anyone should be sent home permanently where they can get in touch with the voters.
They only socialize with like minded fools who haven't left DC airspace in months unless it was a trip overseas paid for by some lobbyist.
I am totally convinced that their brains get sucked out the minute they hit DC.
(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
The only problem is, they never leave DC, they just become lobbyists, like Daschle. South Dakota is so beneath him no, you know?
There is a paradigm shift in process and the Dem/Libs can't believe it. All they've ever known, for 50 years, is that the truth is what they want it to be. Paraphrasing Ayn Rand -- When someone tries to wipe out reality, reality wipes out the wiper. Their chickens have come home to roast. Pass me a napkin.
As Aaron Brown said, " I mean, O'Reilly did about two weeks on taking the Christ out of Christmas. Who the hell is worrying about that?"
The left is clueless about what is important to us. They just can't believe morality and religion REALLY matter to us. We must be a superminority that all the polls are reporting wrong. Or really stupid. Or faking it. Or totally hungup. Or something.
Watching the Party of Asses self-destruct has been a real thing of beauty. And just think. They aren't done yet. The 2008 election cycle is going to be the grand finale to their fireworks show.
It should .. but it won't
The Dems will fight and delay a vote on Roberts with everything they have

I would like to add, that the real-time web is not for the weak. You have to have a warriors heart to stand in it up to your neck and wade through a daily bombardment of murder and violence and random tragedy against innocents to participate.
Sometimes I go over to www.happynews.com to catch my breath.
To your point though, the left is not participating in the great debate, rather the Charlatan's have established great wells of groupthink where they go to feel good about themselves and drink straight from the kool aid river.
If I may state the obvious for clarity.
With a belief in God comes the expectation of certain inalienable rights. This gets in the way of the left's Charlatan class agenda which simply stated is:
Gain power at the expense of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
The Duped class does not understand how anyone could believe in God because the "community" on the left has been cleverly architected by the Charlatan class to reject any argument other than religious belief is the sign of a weak mind.
Therefor, a clever blocking device has been established between the Dupe's positive self esteem/worth and rejection of God and more profoundly his/her affiliation with the community/group (of course subject to austicisation should this status quo change).
To leave the group by either adopting a belief in God or simply walking away is now a lose-lose.
The tragedy is that they will never know a relationship with God and what that means. To look selflessly upon the world and feel nothing but hope and compassion for the innocents. To feel respectable. To be a giver. ...and to reap the harvest of being at peace with yourself.
...and should you be so lucky, to have the Holy Spirit pass through your sole from time to time, to let you know how pleased God is with you.
That's a higher plane of existance to me.

If we had a USA Today type of paper that told the truth rather than expressed liberal BS, we can put the MSM out of its misery once and for all.
Very well put!
At a crucial point in the process, the President can appear with the judge and bring up this inconvenient fact. Sen. Schumer, why should you have to look back more than two years? Were you derelict in your investigation before?
