NRA Launches National Boycott Against ConocoPhillips

Monday, August 01, 2005

LaPierre says NRA will “spare no effort or expense” to defend firearm freedom of employees of anti-gun corporations --

NRA billboard campaign unveiled:

“ConocoPhillips is No Friend of the Second Amendment”

(IDABEL, OK) – Vowing to “spare no effort or expense,” NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre launched an aggressive billboard advertising and national boycott campaign against energy giant ConocoPhillips, in response to the corporation’s anti-gun policy and actions.

“Across the country, we’re going to make ConocoPhillips the example of what happens when a corporation takes away your Second Amendment rights,” LaPierre said at a rally of hundreds of supporters. “If you are a corporation that’s anti-gun, anti-gun owner, or anti-Second Amendment, we will spare no effort or expense to work against you, to protect the rights of your law-abiding employees. Their rights are worth more than your money!”

LaPierre spoke at a rally to support Idabel employees fired by Weyerhaeuser because they kept legally owned firearms safely stored in their locked vehicles in a public access company parking lot. Since the firings, the Oklahoma Legislature passed a bill to prevent such terminations, but ConocoPhillips filed a federal lawsuit to block the protective measure.

“ConocoPhillips went to federal court to attack your freedom,” LaPierre said. “Now freedom is going to fire back!” At the rally, LaPierre unveiled a new billboard advertising campaign to target Conoco and Phillips 66 gas stations. The billboard reads, “ConocoPhillips is No Friend of the Second Amendment.”

LaPierre called on all gun owners and consumers to boycott all Conoco and Phillips 66 products, and asked Conoco and Phillips 66 retailers to urge their corporate brass to get on the right side of freedom and withdraw from the federal lawsuit.

Most of all, LaPierre called on every state legislator in America to stand with NRA and protect the freedoms of law-abiding employees. “You can’t say you support Second Amendment freedoms, then turn around and support anti-Second Amendment companies,” LaPierre said in a message to state lawmakers. “Until ConocoPhillips supports the freedom of law-abiding Americans, we urge Congress and the state legislatures to turn a cold shoulder toward this corporation.”

On behalf of the fired Idabel workers, LaPierre reported that the NRA Civil Defense Fund is fighting in court to get those jobs back. “Idabel, Oklahoma is a new Concord Bridge,” LaPierre said. “Our forefathers didn’t run from the redcoats in 1775 and we’re not going to run from the corporations in 2005.”

In Oregon, "76' gives out a cheesy 'tank bank' card for free. Stop by and get one, then mail it to their HQ with appropriate comments. The Second Amendment insures all the rest!!!

That was one of the reasons that I was going in, although they dropped the amounts back they gave you recently...

Those "cheesy 'tank bank' cards" were great. For those of you who don't know what they are, they're cards that you would hand the clerk every time you purchased something on the list. For instance, a bottle of Snapple got me 5 cents, 2 1 liter bottle of water were on sale for $2 and you also got 5 cents again. Certain candy bars, pain relievers, and other items on the lists also got you "cents" off.

The key here though, is those cents off were CENTS OFF PER GALLON. For instance, I would stop off every monrning for 2 Snapples and 2 bottles of water. That worked out to .75 off of the price of every gallon of gas when I filled up. So when gas was $1.90 a gallon, I was paying $1.15 for 12 gallons, all because of that card and from buying stuff I was going to get anyway.

It was a pretty good deal at the time.

"Can I use Mobil 1 and Sheetz in PA without problem? I think so, but I'm not sure. "

From Sheetzs' web site.

Sheetz, Inc. is not in the business of buying or refining crude oil from any country. Furthermore, we do not import gasoline but instead buy it on a domestic basis (already imported). Therefore, we do not know or control where the crude oil or gasoline comes from. We buy gasoline (a product made from crude oil), for example, indirectly via the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex). We are then supplied with the actual gasoline product by three main U.S. refineries -- Sunoco, ConocoPhillips, and El Paso -- who are in the business of purchasing and refining crude oil.

Just damn. When I did pulp wood logging, my boss handed me an 870 short barrelled shotgun & a big box of shells. It fit very nicely into the custom shotgun rack in the skidder.

Those CDs do make better shotgun targets than rifle targets. (The hole in the middle is to large unless they're out at 300 yards+.)
you're a lot better than i am then my friend. i can't put more than 4 thru the hole before i break them at 100.

I've never seen the AK rule invoked for Shania, but you could always start a new tradition.

Dell had the same policy when I worked there; no firearms on Dell property. I still kept my pistol in the car though.

I wonder how they found out these employees had guns in their cars.

Just remember you may be boycotting someone out of a job.

Yeah, but would be provding one to someone else.

"I wonder how they found out these employees had guns in their cars."

Probably polygraph tests. I suppose they could also ask to search everyones cars too, although I suspect someone might take them to court over that. Refuse to take a polygraph test though and you lose your job. I wouldn't want to work for a company that forced you to take a polygraph anyway.

You can tell that it must be a miserable place to work because the only reason I can think they wouldn't want employees to have guns in their cars is because they are afraid one of them will go 'postal' and shoot up the place.

The reason why boycotts never are as successful as they could be is because....

Is because the wrong entity is chosen for the boycott. Here in California I hope the gun groups will back a boycott of the California National Guard. If the state takes away 2nd. Amendment rights, why should the citizens of that state volunteer for the "State Militia". Oh, there will be a few officers, NCO's and "specialists" with close to 20 or 30 years, but there will be no "troops" to drill. The California National Guard can go drill with frogs and mice.
