Cindy and Craig Corrie will address the Baptist Peace Fellowship, a group that promotes peace and justice
Cindy Corrie's daughter was crushed by a bulldozer in 2003 as she stood by the wall of a home where two families lived in the Gaza Strip.
Rachel Corrie, 23, had gone to the beleaguered area bordered by Egypt and Israel as part of the International Solidarity Movement, which uses non-violent methods to try to halt the destruction of Palestinian homes by Israeli forces, said Cindy Corrie of Olympia.
To carry out the ideals of their daughter, Cindy and Craig Corrie have formed the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice to encourage ordinary people to make personal connections that can lead to a secure peace for Israelis and Palestinians.
The Corries will be among the speakers at the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America, which opens today in McMinnville and continues through Saturday.
More than 330 people are expected to attend the conference's workshops, films, meditative services and Bible study in McMinnville's First Baptist Church. Some music and entertainment events will be at Linfield College.
Marcus Borg, an internationally known biblical scholar who teaches at Oregon State University, is the keynote speaker at the 20th annual conference.
His talk, at 6:45 p.m. Monday at the church, is titled "Christianity, Non-Violence and Empire: Then and Now."
The Corries will lead a plenary session, "Rachel Corrie: A Sacrificial Stand for Justice and Peace in Palestine and Israel," at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. They also will conduct a workshop, "Seeking Peace in Palestine," at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
The Baptist Peace Fellowship is an organization of about 1,145 members, including 73 congregations in the United States and Canada, said the Rev. LeDayne McLeese Polaski of Charlotte, N.C., the summer conference coordinator. It works with other religious groups, including Muslims, Jews and the multi-denominational Fellowship of Reconciliation, to promote peace and justice among all people.
Cindy Corrie, whose past community activism had focused on school issues, said in a telephone interview that she and her husband traveled after their daughter's death to Rafah, the town in Gaza where Rachel Corrie had been meeting residents.
The Corries met Khaled and Samah Masrallah and Khaled Masrallah's brother, whose home was behind the wall where Rachel Corrie was standing when earth-moving machinery arrived.
The Corries arranged for Khaled and Samah Masrallah and their daughter to travel to the United States last year for a series of meetings in Oregon, Washington and several Midwestern states to talk about life in Gaza, Cindy Corrie said.
"It was a very gratifying time for us to connect so directly with people," Cindy Corrie said.
"Our hope is that by fostering these connections and building understanding between people at the grassroots level, it will bring hope for peace and justice," she said. "Governments don't seem to be doing such a great job at this point."

They killed their kid, they may as well kill themselves.
Feel the Love.
CAT is still making bulldozers.
Understand the Israeli's are going to be putting in the Rachel Corrie memorial canal, to lengthen the distance the gunners have to dig.
Olympia? Olympia?!!!!!! < \ sarcasm >
Leftspeak for terrorism and ethnic cleansing.
If Truth in Advertising laws were more strictly enforced, the correct title would be: "Rachel Corrie: A Sacrifical Stand in support of Palestinian Terrorism against Innocent Israelis".
FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel/Russian Jewry ping list.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
Some people never learn.
Liberal American Baptist, not Southern Baptist Convention, of course.
That's cool -- set up a foundation, traipse around the world mouthing anti American propaganda, pay oneself handsomely, and then deduct it all from income taxes.
Great gig established on the extremist bones of their daughter.
Shouldn't the box say "Saint Pancake"?
Had their daughter been a normal homo sapien, they'd be grandparents right now. Unfortunately, they raised her to be an idiot like themselves.
May they have as much success as she did.
Now, that's funny!!!
I really would like to meet these two people and hear their side of the story, in front of my bulldozer.
The bulldozer wins every time.
