Dyer, IN - A man whose wife is charged with fatally beating their two young sons with a ten-pound weight says they were a normal, happy family until she suffered a miscarriage about two years ago.

Robert Lopez and other family members and neighbors say Magdalena Lopez had been suffering from mental illness in recent months before nine-year-old Antonio Lopez and two-year-old Erik Lopez were found dead Tuesday night in the family's home.

Lake County prosecutors have charged 30-year-old Magdalena Lopez with two counts of murder.

A police report said that as officers approached the house in the suburban town about ten miles southwest of Gary, Magdalena Lopez walked out with bloodstains on her clothes and bare feet.

She is being held without bail in the Lake County Jail.

Good lord...prayers for the two youngsters.

I wonder if this is like Andrea Yates...overwhelmed, depressed, unhappy, and no one getting help for her until she finally snaps and kills the kids. Seems to me there might be warning signs...did no one see them, or did they ignore them?

Sad so tragic.

If that is the case they need to charge robert with murder also. He knew she was nuts and left the children alone with her.He is as guilty of murder as she is and they both need to be executed

Are you clueless? Do you know how hard it is for a father to get sole-custody in modern America? I'm sure you'll try to blame the wife's emotional problems on the husband as well.

mental illness? It's always mental illness when a woman kill her kids, haven't we noticed?

The reason is that:

1. Had the man tried to stop her, it would have been domestic violence, zero tolerance policies againstany unPC "bloodshed" oblige.

2. Women are always right, except when sick, you know.

The government and the media always thus resort to "mental illness" and so do the women. It makes it convenient to hide the fact that the government is responsible for those murders by restraining men from checking women's authorities in matters of life and death, terrorism, violence, manners, indescent exposure, marital infidelities, abortion and even in the professional arena they get to never be criticized - a convenient thing and agreement between governments wishing not to be criticized either.

I see again here through "mental illness" yet another proof that feminism helps deresponsiblize government and investigative reporting... and we are suprised 911 occured and none got fired after this!?

You need a clue: men have no credibility in America when it is their words against a woman's, no matter how nutty she is. Judges, lawyers, YWCA will swoop down and insist he drove her that way blablabla, take the kids away from him and give it to the irresponsible nut..

Whoa. You are one angry dude. The tragedy here is that the woman did most probably suffer depression, the husband was at a loss as to what to do and the whole family got no help. Your hysterical tirade doesn't deal with the problem.
Any caring husband and father would want the best for his wife and family and would do everything he could...if he knew what was wrong and could get support...to help his wife and family.

This is a tragic situation where blame is of no use.
We know that women who go through pregnancies, miscarriages often suffer emotional problems. How about we focus on getting them, their spouses and families help so that there are less and less of these tragedies?

Here we go, exactly what I was saying. My criticism now viewed as illicit "anger-shed", shifting burden of proof away from murderers.

PC is a mental disease.

I can testify to the other side of the equation. I had a friend who was suffering from depression, and had a sudden impulse to suicide with her very sick son.

She called me, and I told her she needed to go to a doctor asap. She did, because she wanted help and she really was a great mother. The short story is DCF made her life a living hell. The took away all her children, and the judge actually, on their advice, told her husband if HE ever wants to see his children again he MUST divorce his wife. And he was not allowed to talk to her about it on the phone. He was not allowed to talk to her at all, period. By judges order.

They threw her out of her house. Yhey put her in jail. They took her kids. They told her she wasn't a victim, just her children were. She was not entitled to see her kids, not even with supervision. These children are the center of this woman's existance.
They forced the kids into another school.

She did everything they asked and they were just openly hostile to her. At one point, they told her she wasn't allowed to even talk to her girlfriends, because they knew her children, and "something might pass over".

Her legal bills were huge. She needed three attorneys because it is three different areas of law. She had no money. She had no place to live. (I took her in). She worried incessantly about her children.

When I think of her, I think of Ronald Reagan's line - "The scariest words you ever hear are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."

All this because she requested help from the doctor, because she knew she had a problem, and wanted to fix it.

The point I am making is, how can you go for help, or confide you need it, if you know the state will swoop in and destroy your life? And her kids lives too.

Well, of course its his fault; he got her pregnant, didn't he? /SARC>

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this... Of course, She is the one who killed the kids. Not her husband, not the neighbors, and certainly not the government.

The sad part of all these cases is that it reflects the total loss of moral law, spiritual belief, and family support in the United States today.

Since you have none of the facts of the case. I suggest you do not throw stones. Those children were cared for , love for by their grandparents... The Lopez's.... 'Robert not only lost his sons... The flesh of his flesh , he has to deal with people who do not know the facts of the case. Robert Lopez , son's were his pride and joy and he was an excellent dad. Maggie Lopez, took the only thing she could from a man of his credibility, culturally back ground. His sons. She could have had the whole ball of wax , Robert and his family stood by Maggie's side through years of Dr's , appt. and babysitting the Woman herself. To maintain the safety of Eric and Antonio....
