I have to wonder, at what point will our government consider this an invasion?

I also have to wonder how soon out military will become involved in defending the country. It seems this is beyond the capabilities of local law enforcement or the border patrol to deal with.

"Why do I have the suspicion that other countries are involved in this?"

What other countries do you think might be involved? If you suspect Muddle Eastern countries like Iran, Syria and others that are known terror hotspots, then why would you object to the military being used to guard us from invasion during a time of war?

This administration has a unique opportunity to defend our borders and our national sovereignty. We have been told that we are in a state of war against those that would do us harm. This means securing all of the borders with the effective means to do so including the use of our military.

The American people expect and demand secure borders.

While the information in the article has to be of concern, IMO the author has overwritten to a rather large extent.

His quotes, except from one sheriff, who found some "commando" stuff, are all general, giving him the license to write the article his way. Wow, commandos are killing federal agents along the border. We're being invaded by an army protecting $10 million per day drug shipments.

How many "real" news articles have you read about this, articles generated by reporters from those border areas?
I haven't seen any that describe the situation like that.

Obviously the border must be secured. It will take a lot of manpower. Drug criminals should be imprisoned, natch, and illegal border-crossers should be interned. We have a bunch of closed bases which could handle lots and lots of people.

Our federal law enforcement agencies, except Border Patrol, don't lose situations like this. There has been no outcry from the FBI, DEA, ATF, Customs, about the commando invasions, and they're all down there working drugs, which is dangerous anywhere, and they get shot at everywhere.

INS, parent agency for Border Patrol, has been compromised for many years. Enforcement efforts have resulted in not much more than the release of the arrestees, or court cases strung out and delayed to the extent that they dry up because it's just not worth it to spend that much money to look after the rights of an offender to insure that he has a fair trial, when the end result is nada.

Operating under the INS jurisdiction, Border Patrol is screwed into ineffectiveness. If they worked in a federal task force arrangement, where the disposal of cases is assured, they can be effective. They have a demoralizing job, and that's what leads to bad results.

I have been following the border problem for a while now and my understanding as to why the armed forces have not been used is because they don't have arrest authority and would cause a bigger headache in the civil courts than it already is concerning the illegal immigrant problem. Also the SCOTUS have muck up the laws and process of the illegals that it is hard for civilian police to arrest illegals. The arrest ability of the illegals come under ICE or HLS unless the illegals are apprehended for a crime being committed. The way I have gotten to understand it is that according to U.S. Law no other law enforcement other than HLS or those attached to HLS can arrest an illegal for being illegal. Whenever an illegal is arrested for being illegal HLS always say let them go unless they are on some kind of list that they have.

As to the Border Patrol failing? I don't think the Border Patrol per se has failed but they can't do the job 100% because of lack of planning, funds, training, and personnel. That now is trying to be fixed. However, it will be several years before increase trained personnel will be seen on the Border Patrol. What to do now is the question, and that is what I understand is what congress is trying to answer.

Because you have a functioning brain.

A renegade band of Mexican military deserters, offering $50,000 bounties for the assassination of U.S. law-enforcement officers, has expanded its base of operations into the United States to protect loads of cocaine and marijuana being brought into America by Mexican smugglers, authorities said.

Mexico, number one in illegal immigration and now number one in the drug biz.

Mexican Army Incursions Into The United States

Mexican Army Incursions Into The United States

Incursions

During his travels along the border, Rep. Tancredo learned that the Mexican Army and Law Enforcement Agencies routinely make "incursions" into the U.S. A total of 23 were confirmed by the U.S. government in 2001, and there have been over 115 since 1996. The purpose of these incursions is not totally understood, but U.S. officials have speculated that they are designed to help facilitate the flow of illegal drugs into America, either by creating a diversion or by providing cover for the traffickers.

When Rep. Tancredo sent a letter to the Mexican government, the Embassy in Washington, DC sent a curt response to his inquiry, implying that the troops were merely getting lost. Not a single U.S. law enforcement agent on the ground in the southwest has agreed with that explanation.

Rep. Tancredo’s office has begun documenting new incursions as they take place. Most recently, two disturbing incursions have taken place. On May 17th, a Mexican Army unit led an incursion near Ajo, Arizona that ended with a shot being fired at a Border Patrol Agent. The agent was not hurt, but had two of his vehicle’s windows shot out. On June 14th, the Mexican Army opened fire (with high-powered .308 rifles) on a vehicle with 20 people packed into it. Six of the passengers were injured, two critically.

Despite Rep. Tancredo’s efforts to draw attention to them, each incident received only spotty coverage. You can read the accounts of each incident by following these links:

May 17th Incursion:
http://www.washtimes.com/national/20020513-27549872.htm http://www.washtimes.com/national/20020523-865103.htm

June 14th Incursion:
http://www.washtimes.com/national/20020615-91529269.htm

The issue of incursions needs to be confronted by the U.S. government before a catastrophic incident involving the loss of life occurs. If you have specific information about an incursion by Mexican military or law enforcement, please contact Rep. Tancredo’s office at (202) 225-7882 or tom.tancredo@mail.house.gov. You will remain anonymous.
