Frisk is a lying hypocrite.
There has been NO hope with embryonic cell research and he KNOWS that. The hope and results have been with ADULT stem cell research and there is NO reason WHY taxpayers should fund ANY of this. Let PRIVATE companies fund their OWN RESEARCH!
STOP TAKING MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET THAT I DO NOT APPROVE OF!
I'm not sure when conservatism started requiring placing freaking cells which are going to be discarded anyway over curing actual human beings of horrible diseases.
But for those of you all into the whole issue, more power to you I guess. Seems kind of fanatical to mainstream America though.
Maybe Dobson should be speaking out about Islam instead.
Frist wasn't getting any attention as a presidential candidate, so he decided to pull a McCain to get on the front page of the NY Times.
Stick a fork in him. He's done.
In the end, the line that we draw on the argument of individual human life will become the line that is drawn to define individual human rights.
Frist ain't no conservative. Frist ain't no Repubican. He is an United States Senator. And if someone is not treacherous upon entering the Senate, give them a couple of years and they will be. The Mississippi cheerleader Lott felt that the Senate the sings together stays together. Will Jeffords proved him wrong. While Kennedy and Byrd are embarrassments to the human race, most of the Republicans are a major embarrassment to conservatives. Orrin Hatch always name dropping Teddy Kennedy and trying to talk tough about Janet Reno when she was more of a man than he will ever be. Dole, Lott, Frist, and Hatch follow a pattern. Weak, hand wringing, shrill and always to quick to give in and cut the deal to keep the peace and placate the MSM shile ignoring the conservatives they profess to represent.
Amen!
A president needs to be able to lead. Frist shows no such qualities. Case closed.
Is this a kook fringe thread- or is anybody welcome?
I wasn't going to vote for him anyway, but this means most of you won't either.
Frist is to be commended for focusing public attention on a question that demands an answer, even if he did not address the question himself.
Why are Republicans hell bent on destroying themselves.
Don't the liberals do enough without our own leadership trying to split the party.
life, schmife.
What Senator Frist actually said:

FRIST COMMENTS ON STEM CELL RESEARCH - Floor Statement -- Remarks As Prepared For Delivery
Some background:
WHAT!?

Frist is changing positions on stem cell research...trying to learn more.
UPDATE: The Majority Leader's office is indicating that the NY Times piece is indeed true and that they are not likely to schedule a vote on the stem cell research bill until September, after the August recess.
UPDATE: Interesting tidbit from the NY Times piece:
"I am pro-life," Mr. Frist says in the speech, arguing that he can reconcile his support for the science with his own Christian faith. "I believe human life begins at conception."
But at the same time, he says, "I also believe that embryonic stem cell research should be encouraged and supported."
So an embryo has not been conceived? How is that scientific?
UPDATE: Frist speaking on floor of Senate -- "Embryonic stem cells hold hold specific potential that adult stem cells do not hold."
UPDATE: "I see in all forms of stem cell research great promise to heal...embryonic stem cells have unique properties that make them especially powerful. Unlike other stem cells, embryonic stem cells are pluripotent...they are capable or replicating indefinitely...adult stem cells meet some medical needs but embryonic offer more."
UPDATE: "The limitations of 2001 will slow our potential to sure diseases...therefore the President's policy should be overturned."
UPDATE: "With appropriate reservations I will support stem cell research...this isn't just a matter of faith, it is a matter of science."
UPDATE: "I strongly support newer more alternative means of deriving pluripotent stem cells. With more federal funding these newer methods may provide huge payoffs and we may see advances in moral methods of extraction."
UPDATE: We should also support cord blood research and adult stem cell research. But because embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, they are uniquely necessary for potentially treating other diseases.
UPDATE: Harry Reid on the floor praising Frist -- "This was a moral decision made by the majority leader...it has even more meaning as a result of the medical background of the majority leader...I admire the majority leader for doing this."
Specter -- "The speech the majority leader made on the senate floor was the most important speech made this year, and perhaps in many years."
you bet it was a dumb move for Frist!!!!
