UN expands list of Al-Qaeda-linked groups subject to sanctions

The UN Security Council voted unanimously to expand a list of individuals or entities subject to tough financial sanctions because of links with Al-Qaeda extremists or Afghanistan's Taliban.

In line with previous resolutions relating to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, the council called on all states to freeze without delay financial assets of individuals and entities linked to them, prevent their entry or transit through their territories and halt direct or indirect supply of arms and ammunition to them.

"It comes at a very important moment when terrorism is showing more strength. It's important that we reinforce and expand the sanctions against Al-Qaeda and those who are associated with Al-Qaeda," said Algeria's UN envoy Abdallah Baali said.

Loyalists of Al-Qaeda's Iraq frontman Abu Musab al-Zarqawi announced Wednesday that they had killed two Algerian diplomats, whom they had seized in Baghdad six days earlier.

The UN? "Oil for Peace" UN? OOOOOH so scary. Al Queda must be be quaking in their burkhas.
