Twitty 'Relieved' Hair Not Natalee's

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Another intriguing lead in the two-month old search for Natalee Holloway (search) came to nothing, as the FBI concluded that strands of blond hair stuck to duct tape did not come from the missing Alabama teenager.

The hair, which was found on July 17, was subjected to genetic testing at the FBI crime lab in Quantico, Va., and the results showed they were not from the 18-year-old who has been missing since May 30, said spokeswoman Judy Orihuela.

"It wasn't Natalee's hair," Orihuela said.

A park ranger found the duct tape while collecting trash on Aruba's northeast coast — the opposite side of the island from where the Alabama woman was last seen in public.

"I was completely relieved" by the FBI results, said Beth Holloway Twitty (search), the teen's mother. "Everytime we exhaust something like this it's a possibility that Natalee is still alive."

A sample of the hair also was tested at a crime lab in the Netherlands, but the results have not been released.

Aruban government spokesman Ruben Trapenberg said he doubted the Dutch results would differ from the FBI's findings. Aruba, a Dutch protectorate, doesn't have a lab to conduct the genetic testing.

"The hair was never something we considered significant but it needed to be checked out," Trapenberg said.

The news came as authorities in Aruba neared the end of an effort to drain a pond near a hotel and tennis club that has become a focus in the investigation. Holloway disappeared on the final night of a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean island.

Extensive searches by Dutch marines, Aruban police and some 2,000 volunteers have found no trace of her.

No one has been charged in the case and Joran van der Sloot (search), 17, is the only person detained as a suspect. Two Surinamese brothers, Satish and Deepak Kalpoe, were previously held and released.

Crews expected to finish draining the pond on Friday, said Gabriel Kelly, a spokesman for the island's fire department, which was coordinating the effort.

This is going to be a big weekend for the Holloway case. Lots of activity now (about time!!!). Wouldn't be surprised if the case is cracked by Sunday evening. I have been following this case since Day 1 too -- I'm very happy that finally some progress is happening.

I don't care to retype it, but certain folks should read my post #976 on Thread 10....and take it to heart.

Packed and ready to go home and to a bright future, and then one terrible and tragic decision. She was (I assume the past tense) a very pretty and gifted girl, and she has an amazing mother. If Beth Holloway Twitty and other family members had not done what they have done, this tragedy would have been swept under the carpet and forgotten by now. Maybe, just maybe, justice will come in the end.

OK, I think this case is a farce and an insult and I think those freakin Dutch people, that woman who yapped about "America pushing us around" and the husband/father who said, "no body, no crime" are scumbags and probably guilty of something really treacherous.

But all these threads confuse me. Maybe you could introduce each one with a little summary and update or something.

For those who know the player's names in this case, the following link may be helpful.

It's the Aruba Chamber of Commerce Search Site.

I'd check contractors, hotels, concrete, marinas, excavators and the like.

Sorry if it's been posted before. I'm just kind of a lurker.

There are numerous posts on FR with photos of a piece of green fabric found by a searcher wearing cutoff jean shorts, on approx. 7/17/05, on a rocky shore near where the duct tape was found.

In photo "material003.jpg" the searcher is holding a piece of green fabric in his right hand, and walking past what looks like a larger piece of the same fabric.

In the photo "NHblouse04.jpg", between the searcher's legs, is seen some green fabric that looks like the halter blouse top that Natalee Holloway was wearing in photos "5_23_060305_aruba_woman_350.jpg" and "image704148.jpg", on the day she disappeared.

In the photo "th_thgreenshirt22.jpg" is an enlargement of the piece of fabric held in the searcher's right hand.

In all of the photos, except "material003.jpg", there looks like a small white spot which is on the right cup side of the halter top, just where the striped fabric meets the contrasting dotted-patterned fabric. When the photos are enlarged, the white spot shows up even more.

This white spot could be a small tear in the outer fabric of the halter top (assuming that the top was lined), or a seam that opened up, allowing the white lining to show thru, or, perhaps, a built-in bra.

I am convinced, because of the small white spot, that this is Natalee's halter top that was found as a piece of green fabric by the searcher.

Does anyone know if this green fabric has been turned over to the FBI for fabric analysis and DNA testing to find out if Natalee wore this fabric?

I have not heard any mention on the MSM about this piece of green fabric, only about the duct tape what was found in the same area. I believe this piece of green fabric is the only thing that has shown up that Natalee was wearing the night she disappeared.
