Stoughton (WI) police are investigating the theft and mutilation of a rainbow flag from the yard of a lesbian couple, but investigators are not calling the incident a hate crime.
The nylon flag was taken either late Friday or early Saturday from outside the home of Margaret Funk and Lou Meade.
"The pole was broken, the flag was shredded and it looked like they attempted to set it on fire," Funk said.
The flag symbolizes tolerance and diversity.
Lt. Pat Conlin of the Stoughton Police Department said there is no evidence that the vandalism was a hate crime. He noted that an American flag was stolen in the same area two days later.
Funk said when she discovered the flag was missing she handed out a memo to her neighbors asking them to keep an eye out for it. One of those neighbors eventually found the mutilated flag.
Conlin said a beer can was found near the flag.
Funk said the neighbors are not accustomed to problems.
"They're shocked," she said.
Funk and Meade have lived in Stoughton for about a year, and this is the first time they've encountered hostility.
"This is a wonderful neighborhood," she said. "We love living in Stoughton. It's very quiet."
I thought you were referring to the other part of the post. Sorry about that.
Bubbette works.
"Wow, now I'm really going to cry."
Emotion? And I was leaning toward sympathy due to what seemed like a clear case of Asperger's Syndrome on your part.
Still, inappropriate response to stimulus... your pathology is curiously fascinating.
Given that you have no evidence to the contrary that it didn't and further that another flag was stolen in the area, why assume that it was anything other than a theft?
"You're a freak who advocates destroying others private property because you don't agree with their lifestyle"
Rewind a bit, look at my post, which stated "they should've burned it." Now, since your reading comprehension and intelligence level are such points of pride for you, maybe you can figure it out.
Are you always this brittle? It's unpleasant.
How sweet. Thank you.
OK everbody close their eyes and think of Helen Thomas giving you a lap dance. (not that I know what that is)
"How sweet. Thank you."
You're quite welcome.
When beer drinkers start harassing homos the end is surely near.
Here's my evidence:
1. The story says "The flag symbolizes tolerance and diversity". Obviously a statement planted with the reporter by the oppressed victims.
2. "Funk said when she discovered the flag was missing she handed out a memo to her neighbors asking them to keep an eye out for it. One of those neighbors eventually found the mutilated flag."
Hmmm, if I'm going to stage this crime, I need to have it found. How better than to give a memo to a neighbor and conveniently have them find the flag.
3. "Conlin said a beer can was found near the flag."
Oh sure, what better way to frame the "rednecks" than by placing a beer can near said stolen item.
4. An American flag was stolen two days later. Hmmm, again. If I'm staging this crime, I'm going to make it look like it's a trend. Do you really think someone who steals a rainbow gay flag is going to steal an American flag, too?
Come on, this doesn't pass the smell test. You should know better than that.
Yes, you are extremely rude. And how you make this into my 'championing this as okay' is a leap of logic that, I must admit, utterly escapes me.
I have seen one manufactured 'hate crime' after another in the news- where it eventually turns out that 'victim' was also the perpetrator, attempting to drum up sympathy for their pet cause. It has made me a bit of a cynic. The beer can found at the scene smacks of such in my mind.
For the record, I don't give a flying crap who sleeps with whom. Destruction of somebody else's private property is not right. And I am as sick to death of phony 'hate crimes' as I am of the occasional real one that actually occurs.
I see. So when you stated that they should have burned that flag, you were just trying to make a US flag burning point. Yes, I see the logic there now.
No one is saying it's right, they're simply following the logic and standards the Left has set for everyone else.
Nope, this world ain't upside down.
You were already prepared to drum up a scenario where none existed, it was clear from the article that the memo was handed out after the fact. And frankly, if you don't like how I responded, too bad. This thread is a prime example of lunacy. Maybe not you as much but re-read it. Too many people think it's not only okay because their lesbians but actually seem gleeful about it. Sorry, I just don't get that.
I don't give a crap about any rainbow flag. Has this story been on FR yet?

That no such scenario existed, has yet to be seen. Time, assuming that furthur reports on the case are forthcoming, will tell.
I wasn't 'prepared' to drum up anything. I call them as I see them. This one smells funny to me.
"This one smells funny to me."
I agree. They're "raising awareness."
It the right of free speech. The perps wanted to show how inclusive they could be.
