Rainbow Flag Taken, Trashed in Stoughton (WI)

Stoughton (WI) police are investigating the theft and mutilation of a rainbow flag from the yard of a lesbian couple, but investigators are not calling the incident a hate crime.

The nylon flag was taken either late Friday or early Saturday from outside the home of Margaret Funk and Lou Meade.

"The pole was broken, the flag was shredded and it looked like they attempted to set it on fire," Funk said.

The flag symbolizes tolerance and diversity.

Lt. Pat Conlin of the Stoughton Police Department said there is no evidence that the vandalism was a hate crime. He noted that an American flag was stolen in the same area two days later.

Funk said when she discovered the flag was missing she handed out a memo to her neighbors asking them to keep an eye out for it. One of those neighbors eventually found the mutilated flag.

Conlin said a beer can was found near the flag.

Funk said the neighbors are not accustomed to problems.

"They're shocked," she said.

Funk and Meade have lived in Stoughton for about a year, and this is the first time they've encountered hostility.

"This is a wonderful neighborhood," she said. "We love living in Stoughton. It's very quiet."

"The flag symbolizes tolerance and diversity."

ROFLMAO! Funniest thing I've read all day. Now, were those the same "tolerant and diverse" people that keyed the Bush/Cheney bumper sticker off of my car in November '04?

"investigators are not calling the incident a hate crime"

Maybe they think it's a theft??

That phrase got me too. I thought that flag stood for "alternative lifestyle" and nothing else. They're sure not very tolerant of conservatives.

I'm sure the left and the msm, oh, sorry, kinda redundant, huh? are more shocked by this than by the little anarchists who burned the flags and car of relatives of the Marine who died in iraq.

A lesbian named Lou? I wonder who is the dominant one in the relationship.

She hands out 'memos' to her neighbors? I get 'memos' at work. They're usually really 'directives'.

The memo- if I understand this correctly, basically says, 'hey everybody, keep an eye on our flag'. Then this happens.

Finding a beer can at the scene kind of smells of somebody trying to create an impression- paint a picture of the perp, if you will.
I hope this isn't (yet another) manufactured 'hate crime'.

As an aside, how the heck were the militant homosexuals allowed to co-opt a perfectly benign symbol like a rainbow and get away with it? I loved rainbows as a small child and now I have to stay very far away whenever I see it represented. The blasphemy! P.S. This looks like an inside job, no doubt.

I have a wonderful idea for an "Art Exhibit".

It would be a 'rainbow flag' in a jar of menstrual blood and semen. The true symbols of human reproduction!

Flag burning is constitutionally-protected free speech, so they should've burned it.

Do they ever investigate the destruction of the American Flag as a "Hate Crime?"

"Conlin said a beer can was found near the flag."

Heh, sounds like a set up to me. I bet the beer was an import and still half full.

Wait till they propose a constitutional amendment to prohibit rainbow flag desecration.

"Wait till they propose a constitutional amendment to prohibit rainbow flag desecration."

Flags are flags. Protect one, protect them all. Burn one, burn them all. Equal justice under the law.

The same way they stole Liberal to mean Govt control of everything from its original meaning of limited Government. The same way they twist Rights to mean equality of outcome not equal opportunity and equality under the law. The same way they push the idiotic notion that multiculturalism is diversity though it is exactly opposite of that.I could go on but you get the idea.

"The flag symbolizes tolerance and diversity."

A flag desecrated - who cares? Just someone expressing their constitutionally protected right to free speech.
