Former Miami commissioner Art Teele committed suicide in lobby of the Miami herald building. He was being brought up under corruption charges
Maybe he didn't shoot straight back and up, toward the brain, but went along one side or the other. That's the only thing I can think of that would keep you from killing yourself instantly by shooting yourself in the mouth. But then, it's not like I'm an expert on the subject.
I remember that incident. Lived in Philly at the time. Ugh.

Why can't these guys just stay home and off themselves?
A lot of attempted suicides end up blowing off their jaw, eye, face, etc. There are a couple of these guys around town, and they're really hard to look at.

Actually, seeing as how he didn't die immediately, it wasn't such a nice shot, after all.
Probably got a payoff from the contract cleaning company. There is big money in suicide clean-ups.
Man, it's coming out now that he had some beef with a columnist, Jim Defede. This could have been a tad more gruesome a story.
I can't stand Jim Defede.... but I wouldn't wish him harm either.
I'm not too fond of Defede either. I remember not liking him all the way back to when he was over at New Times. He just always has to be angry at something. I don't know what he had with Teele, though.
That's kind of cryptic, huh? Tell Jim Defede to tell his wife he loves her? Weird.

Former Miami commissioner Authur Teele Jr., recently indicted on corruption charges, has reportedly shot himself in the lobby of the Miami Herald building, according to news partner NBC6. He was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, but his condition was not immediately known.

I remember Teele saying a few years back to vote for the non-Cuban guy to take back Miami from those "arrogant Cubans". When I heard that I thought "He's finished." In Miami, you do not go against the Cubans. If you try, your career is over.

The reason I ask is when I saw this on Drudge I Googled his name and wow, this guy has a baaaad track record (an out and out crook). And nowhere in any of the past news articles was his party affiliation mentioned - which as we know, normally means "rat".
Believe it or not, I actually had great representation in the state house when I was in Miami (State Senator Rudy Garcia and State Rep Alex De La Portilla). The main problem with South Florida (Dade/Broward/Palm Beach) occurs at the county and municipal level. Art Teele was no exception.
