LAHORE, Pakistan - Police and intelligence agents Wednesday arrested a suspected militant who was wanted for a role in the killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, officials said.
The man, identified as Hashim Qadeer, was captured from a bus at a terminal in the eastern Pakistan city of Gujranwala, police and intelligence officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Both requested anonymity because they are not authorized to make media statements.
Pearl was kidnapped and later beheaded in the southern Pakistan city of Karachi in 2002 after being abducted while he was researching a story on Islamic militancy.
Months later, a court in Karachi convicted four Islamic militants in Pearls killing, including British-born Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who was sentenced to death. The three others were given life imprisonment.
The Karachi-based intelligence official said Qadeer is believed to have arranged a meeting between Sheikh and Pearl at a hotel in Rawalpindi, a city near the capital of Islamabad.
Two other militants wanted in Pearls case were killed in shootouts with security forces last year. Five others remained at large, and Qadeer was one of them, the police official said.

A bit of good news today.
Heard this good news driving home from work.
Don't celebrate yet folks.....
The Pakistanis have been playing "rope a dope" with us Infidels for years...
Soon you will hear, that the "suspect" was cleared, or forgiven with a promise to be good, or simply escaped....
When was the last time you heard of either Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or ANY of our Arab Muslim allies --- actually finding a terrorist GUILTY and EXECUTED the sonuvabitch????
Have you ever wondered WHY?
Semper Fi
The really good news will be hearing that his head has been separated from his body.
No, I've never wondered why. Then again, I'm not a pessimistic SOB who sprints to every GWOT thread to piss on it. Semper Fi.
On video, preferably.
Major Pakistani arrests are typically followed within days by some request from the Musharraf government.
It's almost an art form.
The North Koreans do it with American bones.
Good for them.
Omar Shaikh, however, despite a death sentence, lives in luxury in jail, converting his guard to jihad, communicating with and inspiring others to jihad, with nary a protest from anyone. There's been speculation that he inspired or even helped plan and coordinate the London Attacks.
Be that as it may, his "incarceration" is a prime example of the games Pakis play.
Since we KNOW the guy will be neither convicted nor sentenced to anything - let alone death - just for brutally murdering a JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, it's a non-story
Nope, not really. I already know that it's 1/3 to the side that sucks up to the Islamists out of fear, 1/3 to the other side, which openly supports terrorists and .333333333 to the rest, which both fear AND support the terrorists.
Did you mean to be calling me a "pessimistic SOB".....
I've always considered myself a cynical but pragmatic observer.....from the experience of nearly 70 years of living in the real world.
I don't "piss on every GWOT thread...but I do read most...because I support the war with every breath I take.
If my observations disturb you.... Skip them, or try to refrain from being an insulting "forum monitor" with someone you don't know..

Proof? - A verifiable / authentic link to proof of your BS - Give us ANY proof that he was behind the London bombings - Please -
as Mr Pearls parents, Judea and Ruth, noted with sadness and disappointment the failure of Pakistan to carry out Sheikhs death sentence, imposed three years ago after he was tried for their sons kidnap, and suggested that he could be implicated in planning bombings in London and elsewhere.
Using the protection of his jail cell, [Sheikh] reportedly keeps in touch with his friends and followers in Pakistan and Britain, and advises them on future courses of action, they wrote in the Journal.
A source close to those holding Sheikh, who is in an isolation cell in Hyderabad prison, said that he had limited means of communication with the outside world and was allowed visits only from his wife and father.
The above dailytimes report is based on a telegraph UK article, and a WSJ column by the Pearls.
Didn't see him on the scorecard.
Never mind, he was murdered BEFORE we liberated Iraq.
Yep, just four angry guys in berets and sunglasses.
