Pregnant Philadelphia woman missing for 9 days
CNN ^

Posted on 07/27/2005 9:59:39 AM PDT by Millee

Police in Philadelphia are searching for a 24-year-old pregnant woman who has been missing for more than a week. Latoyia Figueroa was last seen on the afternoon of July 18 in the area of 59th and Walton.

Figueroa, a 5-foot-2 African American, is five months pregnant and has a 7-year-old child. She has long, dark brown hair and brown eyes and two tattoos -- an angel on her right wrist and her daughter's name on her left arm.

Police said Figueroa usually makes many calls a day from her cell phone, but her phone has not been used since she went missing. No bank transactions have been made from her account.

She is from Philadelphia and works in a Center City restaurant. Police said she frequently uses public transportation. Family and friends have been searching a nearby park and passing out fliers.

Police said they can trace her steps up till the afternoon of July 18, when she went to a doctor's appointment with a male friend, but left him and did not show up to get her daughter from day care. Her father picked up her child.

I wonder if they have contacted the not-yet-a-father of the "fetus" yet?

I may be willing to lay some money down that that is what happened to her, very unfortunate.

Yeah, it's funny how a few stories get covered, while the vast majority don't even get a mention.

Lacy Peterson was all over the news. I've never even heard of this lady.

God protect her and her baby.

Where's Greta on this story?!?!?

She's busy watching a pond drain in Aruba. Doesn't get much more exciting than that.

Oh, my, 9 days missing. That's not usually a good sign. It's no longer so safe to be a pregnant woman in America. Prayers sent for her.

Is America hostile toward pregnant women, with a penchant for killing them?

I'm in PA and this is the first I'm hearing of it also. What a shame - she should be all over the news for days now. Prayers for her and her baby.

Of course not, but lately really pregnant ladies have made the news, killed by the baby's father's or killed for their baby. It's seems to be more rampant than before. Maybe just better news coverage.

Wow!  I can hardly wait for the around the clock media coverage!  I'll bet Hannity and Combes will set up an outdoor studio on the banks of the Schukyll (look for me in the background waving like a maniac), and Greta will be here non-stop!  Nancy Grace, Paula Zahn, Dianne Sawyer, Charlie Gibson!  This is gonna be outstanding!

Yes, the nation's eyes will turn to my home town and hands will ring over the fate of this non-white, west Philadelphian, mother with an unborn child.

Sad but true - I'm afraid you'll be waving at - no one.

I'll keep this woman and baby in my prayers.

No, not really. Remember those "investigative" articles last year, that made a big deal about murders/assault of pregnant women? When you went through the data, most of the deaths or injuries were random.

However, of the ones that deliberately targeted the pregnant woman, every single perpetrator was the unmarried (estranged, ex-spouse, married to someone else) father of the unborn child.
