Prayers For Red Sox Star Matt Clement

Posted on 07/26/2005 5:28:28 PM PDT by CarlEOlsoniii

For any Boston Sox Fan Freepers (and I know there are some)please pray for Matt Clement. If you are watching the game, he was just incredibly hit by a hit ball in the head on the mound. He lied on the mound for at least five minutes, motionless. The most shocking moment I have seen in sports. Please pray

Maybe so... his hands are cradling the right side of his head.

Any news on his condition yet?

Oh man, I don't want to see or read about this. I know what it looks and feels like. I was checking in on Gameday and wondered why they took him out so early. Praying for Matt Clement and his family.

We Yankee fans are keeping him in our prayers, too. It's always awful to see any player get hurt, especially talented young ones like Clement. Let's hope for the best.

I got 'knocked out' during taekwondo not too long after my concussion. I got a right hook to my left temple, everything went black, and then I remember someone catching me before hitting the ground. I bet he got knocked out before hitting the ground, and then came to. Any loss of consciousness is not good.

May 7, 1957, flamethrowing phenom Herb Score was hit by a line drive off the bat of Yankee Gil McDougal. Score was never the same.

I was a big Herb fan and Yankee hater, 10 years old. I cried all the next day. They had some gruesome pics in the paper. Lot of blood. His eye socket got depressed and his vision was messed up for quite a while. He was wild before this, but after, he was WILD. League leader several years in WPs.

Had 245 SO in 1955 followed by 263 in 1956. Fanned 547 in his first 512 innings. Low ERAs and opposing batting average of .186 in 1956.

All the reports I'm hearing indicate he's going to
be fine...He was Alert, conscience, movement, etc...
The only thing about this game is right after that some
guy hit a friggin Grand Slam for T.Bay and the game is tied.
Sox were leading 5 to 1.

That was my thought earlier when someone posted it had enough on it to go to the "deep" outfield... That was changed to short left field soon after but yeah, the ball just dropping after it hits someone that close at that speed quite possibly could be fatal...

: )

I've played in an 1870's rules league for a few years now... No gloves, old long-sleeved uni's (stifling as hell I might add), vintage bats and balls, big metal pail with water and a ladel (you grow to appreciate Gatorade very quickly) etc.
But, the toughest part is that the rules changed quite often through the years... Some were substancially different, so when you wrote "I couldn't remember for sure" I started laughing because I do that all the time... It'd be like "Dave, is that the right call?" My answer, "Sh*t, I don't know?? Certainly wasn't in 1873..."

:o)

Taekwondo is a martial art, sometimes spelled as Tae Kwon Do.
