For any Boston Sox Fan Freepers (and I know there are some)please pray for Matt Clement. If you are watching the game, he was just incredibly hit by a hit ball in the head on the mound. He lied on the mound for at least five minutes, motionless. The most shocking moment I have seen in sports. Please pray

No he was with the Flubs last year, he signed with the Bosox as a free agent during the off season.
you are thinking of Schilling (a Big Bush supporter)
Prayers for Matt Clement, a real gentleman and an all-star this year.

I wish him the best. It's amazing that this is rare, indeed. Hopefully, they are simply taking extreme precautions. I'm unable to see the game here. Please keep us updated if possible.
I grew up playing running back and linebacker in football and was a pitcher in Baseball. I thoroughly enjoyed the contact in football. I never shied away from it. As a pitcher, I was always petrified that something like this would happen to me, and i don't think I was quite as effective as I could have been If I wasn't forever concerned about that round ball rocketing back to me. I ultimately decided to fore-go BB and stick to the "contact sport". Ironic.

Spare me the superior dance. Any news account of the incident would have that detail near the end of the story.

What happened to Trot Nixon? Tonight?

Thanks. I hope it was a slight angle of attack, anyway. A directly perpendicular strike at that speed would be extraordinarily dangerous.

OK dude,
Let me ask, was blood gushing out of his ears; or was his head swelling up as big as a pumpkin?

News says that "he is concious and aware if what happened"
I'm more frightened that there might be some paralysis, even if he was concious. It seemed to hit his temples

Thanks. Certainly hope he's ok. He was Cubs pitcher last year. Prayers up.
To: CarlEOlsoniii
Thanks for the thread. Prayers certainly header for Matt and his family.
News report is that during transport to the hopsital (or perhaps at the hospital) he was alert and knew what hit him, which is much better than what it looked like in the interim he was on the field.

Correct. Isn't the bone plate around the ear the thinnest in the skull?

This is a horrible situation. The fact that whe was alert as he left the field is fairly irrelevant. Complications could easily develop over the next 48 hours.
To: Cboldt
He will be getting a few MRI/MRAs and CAT scans for a few days.

Where did the ball hit him? Side of the head? Yes, side of the head. He was generally facing to his left, saw the ball coming and turned further leftward. The line drive hit him hard on the right side of his head. He didn't even have time to get a hand up or "duck" or drop.
He hit the deck and didn't move.
