Professor Wants To See Seaweed On Dinner Plates

And I will defend his right to put it on his plate.

Well, Professor, try that with me and enjoy eating corn-on-the-cob with no teeth afterwards....

Sounds like a good idea. We need someone to come up with a tasty new TV dinner.

When I lived in Japan we used to buy some crackers that were seaweed, osimbe, I believe. I cannot get them in the US but they were good to munch on and a good alternative to chips.

Actually, the problem is the name. "Seaweed" just doesn't cut it. They need a more attractive name that makes it sound like a delicacy.

And a TV ad with a sexy babe swooning as she nibbles on it.

Some of the extreme vegetarians in the missus church swear by the stuff.
It is quite thoroughly disgusting and no amount of seasoning will make it palatable.
Trust me on this.

Go for it. I'll pass. That dried seaweed is like eating dried paint chips.

Pieces of Chinese firm" tofu (bean curd), wrapped in seaweed, fried and served with a garnish of finely diced spring onions and red peppers.

Go eat at any Japanese restaurant, or buy a prepackaged seaweed salad at the sushi counter of any large supermarket. The prof must not get out much: Americans have been eating seaweed for 20 years now.

I think I'll pass on the seaweed in favor of a rare steak, washed down with a good Aussi red followed by a nice cigar. Life doesn't get much better than that.

You already eat it. Kelp is processed into an additive that ends up in almost all ice cream. Its also common in canned soups and many other products on the store shelves. I add dried seawood from the local Chinese market to my stir fry to impart a Japanese flavor. BTW, my bro-in-law works for a big kelp factory in California. When asked what he does for a living, he replies, "I grow yellow slime and you eat it." The kelp is processed with various yeasts and other bugs to obtain various products.
