A Dutch court has sentenced a 27-year-old radical Islamist to life in prison for the November murder of controversial film-maker Theo van Gogh.
Mohammed Bouyeri, who has joint Dutch-Moroccan nationality, had made a courtroom confession and had vowed to do the same again if given the chance.
The murder in Amsterdam stunned the Netherlands. The court ruled that it was a terrorist act.
The judge said the murder had triggered "great fear and insecurity" in society.
"The murder of Theo van Gogh provoked a wave of revulsion and disdain in the Netherlands. Theo van Gogh was mercilessly slaughtered," said Judge Udo Willem Bentinck.

Expect outrage from the Muslims who believe he did nothing wrong.
now this terrorist, murderous pig will become a folk-hero to the nitwit liberal euro-weenies.
Come on, BBC, get it right.
They do need the DP, but at least this sentance has no parole. I don't know what they would have done otherwise, since this jihadi basically promised he'd do the same again given the chance.
This is one of the more outrageous episodes in the War on Terror. How this thug is still breathing is even more outrageous.
Continental Europe shoul've been galvanized by the brtual slaying of one of the members of their arts community.
From the article:
"After the Van Gogh murder, mosques in several Dutch cities were the targets of vandalism and failed arson attempts."
Every article I have read on this has thrown this bit on at the end. There is no mention of the arson attacks on churches.
"life in prison"
He'll be out in 10 years, max.
They were! For about a week anyway.
Wait, I thought Poverty, Environmental Degredation and Western Imperialism caused terrorism...
They started apologizing for the killer, and marginalizing his collaborator shortly thereafter.
I hope the judge sees fit to send him to a place where the prison wardress is kind and considerate.
I sincerely hope he is able to develop close, meaningful, loving relationships with the other inmates.
And I hope too that that he is served bacon and eggs for breakfast, ham and cheese for lunch, and pork chops for dinner.
He'll be out in 10 years, max.

I was thinking along the same line. When I read "Van Gogh killer jailed for life," instantly I thought, "How long is that is real years?".
No 72 virgins for him. What an idiot!
They will release him when hostages are taken at on a KLM flight the way they tried to get Carlos the Jackal out.
"How long is that is real years?".
Thankfully the sentence carries no possibility for parole. Read the article. Someone will kill this POS in prison.
