It's a faux set-up. The former ambassador's wife was identified by the Reports Officer who testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee. He said that she offered up her husband's name to the deputy director of the CIA counterproliferation dept. Further investigation reveals his name to be Alan Foley. Great covers over at the CIA. This is all on the internet. Any pundit who couldn't find this out is incompetent. This was way before Novak's colomn.
