Clinton offered goats and cows for Chelsea's hand

Bill Clinton, used to a warm reception on his global goodwill missions, came away from Kenya this weekend with more than he bargained for.

The former US president must now consider whether the offer of 40 goats and 20 cows, made by an apparently love-struck local official, is sufficient to persuade him to give up his daughter Chelsea for marriage.

Godwin Kipkemoi Chepkurgor wrote to Clinton through Kenya's Foreign Affairs Minister, and promised him that he would look after his daughter in style.

"Had I succeeded in wooing Chelsea, I would have had a grand wedding," promised the electrical engineering graduate.

"I would have invited South African Aglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu to preside at the ceremony."

The councillor also gave the names of former Kenyan president Daniel Arap Moi and two of his college mates as character references.

Mr Chepkurgor said he had been impressed by Hillary Clinton for standing by her man through the Monica Lewinksy scandal "like an African woman."

A Kenyan man traditionally has to pay a dowry in goats and cows to his bride's family - the offer Mr Chepkurgor made for Chelsea is a generous one that befits a big man's daughter.

He said he would be willing to travel to America to visit her family, but refused to give more details of his suit, as it is private matter between the parents of the bride and groom.

Mr Clinton arrived in Kenya at the end of last week to discuss how the Clinton Foundation would help the country's anti-AIDS programmes but made no mention of his daughter's dowry.

So because I believe that going after the kids is sickening, self-serving, gratuitous and classless, that make me self-righteous?

I see...when you can't defend yourself, you attack. Age old ploy that does nothing to ameliorate your own actions.

You disagree with me? Fine. I didn't insult you when I disagreed with you. YOU resorted to name-calling, which goes a long way to explaining why you find it acceptable to insult and demean the kids.

Okay, if Chelsea is worth this much, I can only imagine how much the Bush twins livestock worth would be!!!

I don't think it is "self righteous" to note that a discussion of this kind will have people saying we're the "mean party" when we pick on other people's kids. It's not right to pick on the Bush twins, and it's not right to pick on Chelsea, either.

We're above that.

Think about it. The left does it all day long, making fun of the looks of Linda Tripp, Paula Jones, Katherine Harris, Ann Coulter, deriding Laura Bush (a gorgeous woman!) as "frumpy" while hailing that moonbat Tahrayza as "sexy". They demean the looks of the person in order to dismiss the message they bring. Whatever intellectual points do you think you score when you pick on someone's kids? Who do you think is "convinced" that conservatives are more logical with this kind of tripe? Do you think you're showing anyone how great your arguments are, or just that you can sink to the same level as DU'ers?

I hope this discussion is not proving that we can be as puerile as the left.

Clinton offered goats and cows for Chelsea's hand

This reminds me of something from Cassius Clay's (pre-Ali) LP, I Am The Greatest!!

...paraphrasing:

"You offer me your daughter's hand

& those some claim this is the best of her,

I must refuse, you understand,

unless you throw in the rest of her..."

The former President disembarks from his airplane after a trip back to Arkansas. Although the hoopla is less now that he is out of office, Clinton still occasionally finds himself greeted by military personnel. This is one such occasion.

He climbs down the stairs, carrying two huge pigs, one under each arm. He gets to the bottom, and nods his head in return to the soldier's salute. "Son, what do you think about these?" he says. "Nice pigs, SIR!" comes the reply. Clinton gets mildly miffed and lectures, "I'll have you know these aren't just pigs but the finest of Arkansas Razorbacks. Top notch. I got one for Hillary, and one for Chelsea. What do you think about that?"

"Nice trade, SIR!

He could probably get the same deal in Arkansas.

I'm not sure you understand the meaning to the term "self-righteousness," but nobody's "attacking" you. Also, no one called you any names. So your paranoia can go back on the shelf too. Chelsea Clinton has thrown her hat into the political ring. She's a grown woman, and she makes speeches. She's fair game. Throw in the fact that the left-wing of the media has written about how sexy she is, and her look are fair play.

Then she needs to stay out of politics. My like demonstrated that she hasn't. She's a grown woman.

The problem with what you are saying is that Chelsea Clinton IS in politics. You might as well suggest that we leave Hillary alone.
