In a recent essay in the NYT Book Review of John F. Harris's The Survivor: Bill Clinton in the White House, Alan Ehrenhalt speculated about the reasons Clinton was so disliked. This sparked a rigorous debate on Richard Jensen's list, ConservativeNet. Below, a sampling of opinion.
Alan Ehrenhalt's Review
Millions of Americans despise Bill Clinton. They have done so since he became a presence in national politics in the early 1990's, and they continue to do so today, more than four years after his retirement from public office.

The Senate. The second fall from grace to conservatives everywhere. Our security as a nation resides in the fact that if our choice as the person who holds the most power proves to fear neither God nor the law, we have a constitutionally protected way to address those grievances in order to restore and protect our nation. If our second plateau of safety fails, we are at the mercy of lawless power and impotent overseers. Clinton raped us, but the Senate looked the other way.
That was an interesting article and commentary. I agree with most of it and nobody has even mentioned the last week of his Presidency. The looting of the WH and the pardon of Marc Rich. A legacy of looting the American people both morally and physically by a pathological liar...with an enabling media at every turn. That IS his legacy.
I agree... but LBJ needs to be right up there too.
I hate them both. But then, you knew that.......
LBJ was a greedy liberal monster who destroyed a million lives through his poverty programs and Viet Nam war. Yet, even he didn't sell out the US like Cahtah and Bubba did.
I don't know why others hated Bill Clinton, but I hate a liar.
I don't 'hate' Bill Clinton or his bitter, marxist partner no more than I would 'hate' a pair of rabid dogs. But a pair of rabid dogs eventually have to be dealt with for the safety of the community.
New rule: They aren't even allowed to ask this question anymore, given the bile and vituperativeness they've poured out on dubya. The one difference between the two is that with Clinton, there was always the fresh scent of weasel in the air, whereas with Bush, the literary metaphor (which libs so love) is Moby Dick: The libs keep chasing Moby Dubya but never catch him, and in the end he destroys them!
President Richard Nixon was choir boy compared to the treasonous clinton(s)

I stopped reading this article when the author got to the part about Clinton haters being worse than Nixon and Bush II haters. Who is he kidding? What dream world does he live in? My God, the hatred spewed out at Bush creates enough energy to keep the Earth spinning for eternity.
It would be easier to put down what I liked about him...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................No can't think of anything.
1) He took credit for successes that he had no part in creating (the emergence of the internet & the telecom industry were from Reagans deregulation; balancing the budget and welfare reform were the result of a Republican Congress)
2) Blew a chance to help Russia along as an ally instead of a future adversary
3) Apologized on our behalf for transgressions that no living American ever participated in (slavery, global warming) so he could be viewed as compassionate
4) Emerged from church waving a bible to promote an image of piousness to overshadow the depravity he lived on a daily basis
5) Sold us out to the Chinese for campaign contributions,
6) Abused his office to attack his political enemies (FBI files, and taxpayer funded attack dogs)
7) Handled National security as a joke (Sandy Berger, Madeline Im wearing a brooch and a big scarf Albright, Craig Livingston [an ex-bouncer] in charge of who had access to our countrys secrets)
8) Served up presidential pardons for political contributions
9) Promoted the acceptance of gays in the military
10) Sh*t all over the image of the office of the presidency
11) Filled the courts w/ liberal activist judges
12) Dropped the standards of what is considered acceptable behavior to a low in this country
our children now have a new low in what is defined as normal behavior
13) Dropped military prepardness & morale to a new low
14) Helped North Korea to develop nuclear technology which they then shared w/ Pakistan
15) Gave ineffective respones to Sadaam, the leaders of Iran, the leaders of North Korea, and Osama Bin Laden
Great analysis. I suspect we are going to hear a lot more about "Clinton-hating" in the MSM in order to distract from their own mindless loathing of W (and rationalize opposition to the H Beast).
In the last 2-3 years, I have come to the realization that JC was a much worse President than WJC. And he managed it in only 4 years.
For how he treated the "little people" -- Paula Jones, Linda Tripp, the WH Travel Office, etc. For his rapes. For his murders. For his lies, for his thefts. For his cover-ups, for his collusions. For his amorality.
The archtypical liberal - arrogant - totally wrong about everything he believes - unable to learn from reality - pompous - hypocritical - etc. What's not to hate?
