"That is it. They have no sense of the ridiculous. Sneering at everything is not all there is to humor and quickly becomes boring."

Some here have the same sort of basic inability to see things as funny, unfortunately. If I had a dime for every time I'd read 'it's wrong to joke about _____," I'd probably have a jar full of dimes.

"A Republican will tell you that you shouldn't make fun of disabled people. A Democrat will tell you that you can't make fun of disabled people - which is untrue, as anyone who's ever heard the joke about Helen Keller falling down a well and breaking three fingers calling for help will tell you." - P.J. O Rourke

I used to think that. But Non-Sequitur has gotten pretty sadly partisan, too. What is it about elections that makes comics cartoonists think they should get all preachy? I loved reading Wiley. Then he turned into this raging anti-Bush type. I don't love Dubya, but I don't really appreciate people insulting the man, especially if they're attempting to persuade me his policies are wrong.

"I used to enjoy Doonesbury, but he's gotten progressively more bitter and just mean."

The very early Doonesbury was downright hilarious, and in fact very un-PC, as Trudeau actually made fun of liberals (especially their naivete and earnestness). Later on, as you said, he grew more cynical and condemning of anyone conservative. I can't even read him now.

My favorite character was Uncle Duke, but you know, even when he's featured, it's just an anti-Iraq-war screed now.

I used to read his stuff last on the comics page because it was almost always funny. Now I hardly read it at all.
