Dirty Tricks Planned Against Judge Roberts?

Supreme Court nominee Judge John Roberts will be targeted by an eleventh-hour dirty-tricks campaign designed to derail his Senate confirmation, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol predicted on Sunday.

"I think the interest groups will go after him personally," Kristol told his fellow panelists on Fox New Sunday. "It will be tougher and rougher than people now think." Senate Democrats won't filibuster the Roberts nomination, he said.

But instead, "a week before the confirmation begins there will be some dirty trick, some personal attack, [that] will appear in the New York Times," Kristol predicted.

The influential Republican said that ultimately, the dirty tricks campaign will fail, predicting that Roberts would be confirmed, with "35, maybe 36 votes" against him.

I think the Frist and the GOP are going to need to "nuclear" on this.

If the Dem pols had any brains, they'd realize they're shooting themselves in both feet with excrement like this. I can't tell you the number of Dems I know who are repulsed by this kind of bleep. Their attitude is just vote already. If we lose, we lose.

I personally think he's got his tin foil hat on a bit tight. Roberts will have an easy confirmation because all RATS eyes are on the Rove prize.

I read alot on this guy and unless he's hiding a penchant for hookers and crack, I don't think there's anything there.

Seems like a pretty nice guy.

It will get nasty.

Remember prople breaking into Clarence Thomas's garage and searching his trash trying to find out if he believed in the right to PRIVACY?

The irony!

If you ask me the change in the dims tone is probably due to the communications guru they hired, I think his name is George Lakoff or something like that.

I bet the farm they will continue with their obstruction they are just going to disguise it better, or attempt to.

Freepers need to get the word out about this so people can be ready to call attention when their obstruction and smear campaign return into plain view.

Well, he made his "bet' on 64-65 to 36-35, assuming all 100 votes. Let us see how close the final result would be to his prediction. If the numbers are close, than he's more influential than most of us, being closer to the pertinent information.

Ive already decided that the kind words from democrats about Roberts are a smokescreen. The republicans had better be ready to squash resistance immediately or we'll still be waiting a year from now.

That's it. The paper trail.

Roberts sent a letter requesting transfer.

He swore in front of a nun in 8th grade and got his knuckles smacked with the ruler. He once told a joke and used the term "Mexican standoff." He snapped Heather O'Reilly's bra strap in 6th grade. Roberts is clearly unqualified.

Not a problem if you're running for DC mayor.

Ideologically, the most important issues for Democrats are abortion and perversion. Pragmatically, the most important issue is power.

Both are threatened by Roberts. There's no doubt that the Democrats will launch another scorched earth campaign, and that the leftist media will work closely with them.

The New York Times and the Washington Post consider that it's part of their job as the country's two most politically influential newspapers to work closely with political insiders, and to make news rather than break it.

If they are not sitting together in a back room someplace plotting their strategy, then pigs have grown wings.
