EDGARTOWN -- When a spring storm began battering Massachusetts earlier this year, Karen and Kevin Newman's thoughts quickly turned to their new vacation home on Martha's Vineyard.
For about a year, the Newton couple had been making regular trips to the house, an unkempt property that they bought with plans of fixing up.
The Newmans are among the many families who have fulfilled the dream of owning a vacation home.

But Joyce Misuraca, a 55-year-old Middleton resident who bought a condo with her husband near three golf courses in Florida, said still has caretakers check on her home. [...]
Still, first-time owners say the extra effort is worth it, because they are able to spend time at new homes that often become gathering places for friends and family, a retreat from the rat race, even a trophy earned with years of hard work.
"We just love being there more than anyplace else," Ricki Lewis, a New York resident, said of her family's vacation home on Martha's Vineyard.

Maxine Blake, 56, and Lois Rice, 65, a couple from Manhattan, have begun winterizing their West Stockbridge home, which they bought this year. They were unpleasantly surprised when a frozen pipe burst and filled the house with water.
The women have since enjoyed bucolic vacations near Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Lenox. They developed relationships with local handymen, painters, and other professionals, which they think of as a team to help with the house.
"You have to be like the executive," Rice said.

Why didn't they employ workwomen to clean up and patch?
Where are their "rights" being violated? They're lesbian, right? So they should be poor due to job discrimination, and be unable to purchase items like houses together? //sarcasm
They were busy laying the carpet....
Perhaps the Isle of Lesbos would have been a better destination for these two adventurous nymph's.
