A California television news program has obtained a memo that warns California hospitals they should consider themselves potential al-Qaida targets.
Sacramento's KCRA reported Friday that earlier this month, the U.S. government learned that hospitals across the country could be terror targets.
As a result, the California Hospital Association sent a letter to hospitals statewide, warning them of the threat.
In the letter, the California Department of Homeland Security warns that al-Qaida may be planning attacks on hospitals in September or October of this year.
Although the government says the information is uncorroborated, it is urging hospital employees to be vigilant.
The source specifically mentioned the Los Angeles and San Diego areas, but emergency centers nationwide have been warned.
"Hospitals are a key piece of infrastructure," said California Homeland Security spokesman Gary Winuk. "If there is to be an attack somewhere, particularly biological or chemical, they're the first line of defense. So, we're very concerned about them and a number of other sectors."
The government source told homeland security officials that nuclear facilities and military and civilian airports are also possible targets.
I have concerns around border cities/states. Unless terrorists are with their women who are dressed in native attire they could easily blend in as Hispanic. I would notice a blond before a mid eastern.
Great. I live ten miles south of the largest collection of cutting-edge hospitals concentrated anywhere in the USA. Couple that with the influx of M-13 gangs in the area who have ties to Al-Qaeda and the fact that Madison, WI is the most liberal, the most all-embracing, the most diverse, the most feel-good, do-nothing city on the planet...
Yikes.
Remember there are a lot of hospitals that have Nuclear Medicine Departments. Not sure if this could pose a threat, must be low level radiation, though the thought is scarey!
My teenage Son works at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center in here New Jersey, as a dietary aide (kitchen worker) I'll have to pass this info along.
On the plus side, so many hospitals have been forced to close here in CA, the number of targets is greatly diminished.......

If there is a terrorist attack on a US hospital, your views will be considered moderate.
This is so weird - yesterday I saw a black helicopter twice - and this morning I saw another one. I'm on a helo airport flight path so I probably see more than most people. I know there is a "classified" hangar at the airport - which I'm assuming is where the blackies hang out.
And .. we have a large childrens hospital and another big hospital within a few miles of each other who both have helo pads. We also see a lot of TV helos. We also have a very large Muslim community here in San Diego - and 2 of the 9/11 bombers came from this group. Very unsettling.
I said to my mom this morning when we saw the 3rd black helo - something is going on. I can't help but wonder if it's connected.
Ok
What is "guessing game." :)
Sorry, I had to LOL at this one.
But very few of the people in ER waiting rooms these days speak English; shouldn't these warnings be in Spanish?
Forget about the LOW levels in nuclear medicine. The radiation therapy department would be the way to go to get some cobalt60.

Whty then, should we?
Hmmmmmmmm.......
Ok. I stand corrected. One of the places where you aren't supposed to be armed:')
Considering the extreme lack of care and attention that I recieved last month in the hospital, an entire battalion of terrorists could march in and I doubt anyone would notice!
The two areas mentioned have some of the lowest percentages of US citizens in the US. In some cases less that 50% of the occupants of emergency rooms are US citizens.
In addition they are not about to piss of their facilitators. If they kill a large group of Mexicans in LA or San Diego, Fox will retaliate by shutting down their free ride across the US boarder.
Arm the doctors.
I guess innocent women and children were too tough a target...
