Tom Tancredo Eyes White House Run
SFGate ^

Tom Tancredo has been called a one-trick pony of a politician, a man out of step with his party, a bigot. The Republican congressman vehemently opposes illegal immigration, and he created an uproar last week when he talked about nuking Muslim holy sites.
"Unless I misread the political tea leaves, there is a great deal of support for what I say," Tancredo said.
Experts say Tancredo has no chance at the White House, but like Ross Perot's campaign on a balanced budget in 1992, he has found an issue that could force other Republicans to treat immigration as a major issue.

It NEEDED to be said, and, someday, it may NEED to be done!

Even if Tancredo won the Republican nomination, the national party leadership would probably disband or even endorse Clinton, much as it did in 1964 with LBJ.

Tom Tancredo's even considering the possibility of a win in 2008 is solid proof of that.
Tancredo's said before that if he runs, it'll be to force the other candidates' hands on illegal immigration, rather than running to actually become the nominee and win.

Drawing votes from the center, and governing from the center is what has caused our current mess.
Forget "r" or "d"
It's time to start acting like Americans not "party" subjects...............

...it would be nice having a real Republican after a semi-Republican.The Republicans continue to demonstrate what useful idiots they are regardless of whether they're the minority or majority party.
I believe Tancredo possesses true conservative credentials and I would have no problem in strongly supporting his candidacy.

George Allen looks pretty good to me right now, but, I like a lot of what Tancredo says.

"George Allen looks pretty good to me right now, but, I like a lot of what Tancredo says."
Allen was looking good to me also, but didn't he do some knee-jerk "apology" deal not long ago? Slavery or something? That's all well and good, but it struck me as a little too staged and self-serving. Could this have been planned to get his credentials in order for the left?
Just a thought, but I remember I thought it was not necessary.
If Tancredo runs, it will be very telling how he does in the primaries. Could be fun to watch.

Tancredo vs Hillary = Clintons moving back into WH.
If hillary moves into the WH, it'll be the fault of apologist such as yourself, not the fault of people that vote for Tancredo. GO Tom GO! Blackbird.

What is "so out there" about saying we should respond in kind to a nuclear attack? What's "so out there" about insisting on securing the borders and getting rid of illegals invading our country?
Sounds quite rational to me.

I agree with you. It doesn't appear to make much difference who we vote for - D or R - we still get the same thing. I hope Tancredo does run - he has my vote. This last election was the LAST time I vote for the Lesser-of-the-Evils.

The Roberts appoint shot Jr. up quite a bit in my opinion, but then you have these little annoying comments like "Islam is a religion of peace," without mentioning a spending spree that would please the worst Johnson Democrat. Call Bush what you want. He doesn't have very solid conservative credentials.

Why are you so sure Tancredo couldn't get elected? The vast majority of people in our country are opposed to illegal immigration.

"Right. Forgot. We can't possibly nominate someone who will speak the truth. Sorry, teach."
What truth? Both he and Clinton demagogue on the issue but notice they never offer any substantial ideas on what are the solutions? They both pander to the Hard Rights biases on the issue. However, both are careful to never say anything that will nail them down to back a specific proposal for a solution. Immigrating Reform will be like Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign "Middle Class Tax Cut" promise, An Issue Hillary will use in 2008 to appeal to the always malcontents on the hard right then drop the same week she is swore in as President. I suspect that Tancradeo will serve as her Perot. A 1 issue candidate with no idea or vision on any other issues who only runs to split the center-right base of the Republican party.

The Roberts appoint shot Jr. up quite a bit in my opinion Me too, which is sad considering he wasn't the best (or even the 4th best) selection for the job. I was just expecting much worse. Makes you wonder if the Clement rumor was floated the day of the nomination to make Roberts seem comparably more acceptible in the eyes of conservatives.
